the stock motor is 850kv and your using a 1100kv motor correct ? i would use a smaller pinion , except if you want screaming head speed , or better yet , use the stock motor ...

Nooooope do not use the 16t with the 1100kV. That would result in ~3500rpm

Motor mount is not adjustable, so you'd have to slot the frame to allow the motor mount to move and put a smaller pinion... 12 or 13t.

The 4025-890kV would have been a better option as it would be able to use the same 16t pinion.

That said the stock motor is already more than powerful enough and more powerful than a 550 will ever need or be able to use, so I don't really see the need to change it.

Hey, I'm interested in getting a new 550 kit and I have a scorpion 4025-890kv motor, ds515 cyclic, ds650 tail, HW 100amp pro plat v3, and 7200bx fbl for electronics. With this slap right in the kit with no issues or mods? Or will I need to get better cyclic servos?

DS515 are mini servos, too small for 550

Default 550l to scorpion motor pinion

I am not really an expert here, but wouldn't be theoretically possible to use an higher kv motor with the same 16T pinion and just run a lower throttle curve, say flat at 70% or whatever is needed to keep an acceptable headspeed? This is assuming that the op cannot use the stock motor and needs to change over to the Scorpion one.

Edit: I forgot that you want to run your esc at its maximum efficiency, which is what: 80% throttle? 90%?

If it's a little higher it's not a problem... hence the 4025-890kV is okay being 40kV higher than stock... but 1100kV is 30% faster, which is way too much... headspeed would be >3500rpm, and lowering throttle curve to get it to a reasonable RPM would be very hard on the ESC, even with active freewheeling, and put the motor at a huge disadvantage running way below its max torque RPM.

Thanks, that's what I thought, but you expressed it much better!
