I am slowly putting together another mcpx from parts. I have also been thinking of a way to have a music wire tail fin...of sorts. It would just be an outline of a fin used only to protect the tail blade. The only issue I cant figure out is how to mount it so it can be pulled off

I too am working on another heli from spare parts. I have a complete airframe w/C05m , just picked up a v1 3 in 1 for it, need a couple of servos and and esc/convertor to finish it out.
Spent part of the day converting my new 550's to micro Dean's, started the break in process with them just doing indoor hovering in different orientations. Kinda boring, but I still need this kind of practice....

Does it mount nicely to the main frame? It would be cool to see if there is a better way to integrate the battery mount - hmm...

I took a spare frame with broken upper body posts and experimented with making a system so that all I need to do to replace a boom is cut some cf rod to length and drill two holes. I used b400 training gear for this mod. First I cut out the fat section of plastic that the stock tail slides into with a pair of cutting pliers. While still keeping the angled support sections intact. Then I too two of the brackets from the training gear and cut off the skid clip side and sanded them smooth. Then with a lighter I carefully melted one end of one bracket and pushed it into the back of the mcpx frame, between the vertical supports. Then a few dabs of CA, some 30 min epoxy and TADA!!!! New simplified and rock friggin solid tail solution!
Try it! Tell your friends!! |

Re-took pictures in better light and added one to show the tail fin better. I simply drilled two tiny holes for some tiny screws in the collar that holds the motor and presto! No more clip on tail fin!

I flew 4 packs before work just as the sun was coming up. Cold, but no wind! Been flying for about 3 weeks and my skinny figure 8 circuits are getting smoother every day. I still drop speed coming back from left to right.
Hit the park near work at lunch and flew 3 packs. Very windy and almost crashed the bird for the first time. So, I headed back to the office to get some work done. Hopefully, I can get out before dark and keep practicing some more. This is one fun little heli! |

For fun I have been doing fake autos at the end of my flights. I go into normal mode and spec it out. I then drop the throttle to about 1/4 stick. If I go to full neg collective I lose the tail. Loads of fun. Of course last time I did it I hit LVC half way down and smacked the asphalt GOOD! Just snapped the LG.

Nothing yet..but while at work (still at work ) I ordered 5 Hyperion 550 lipos, some 22 gauge wire, and micro deans for her. Should be a monster when I get my 915 motor in...

crashed it into the house at full speed and broke a blade in half... put the bullet blades on it and crashed it into the house again, just scraped one blade up a little bit this time
i dont think the mcpx is something i should be flying, piro flips and hurricanes in a small area don't seem to work well.. why cant i just fly it around easily that is the question.

Danny, you think that's crazy, put an Extreme Spin 16300 motor in it. That's nuts!

I put 915 motor in microheli frame. Got everything ready to be soldered for when my micro deans and heat shrink tubing get hear. If it ever does. Cut connector off 120 tail ssymbly. cut assymbly down to 135 mm. slide wires back through and waiting on that heat shrink agian. flew 6 packs through my stocker with no crashes. not a bad day!

It mounts really snug in the frame. The battery tray is not my favorite, but it gets the job done for now.

I didn't do anything too interesting with my mCP X today.
Yesterday, however, I flew it in 10-20 mph winds just for the heck of it (it flew surprisingly well btw), trimmed some spanish moss from the trees in my neighborhood (on purpose), harassed some squirrels (also on purpose), and flew into a random bush at full power... ...The bush was never quite the same after that. Gosh I love this thing. |
