Default Maiden!

Just a few gentle circuits of the field to check on power balance between the two motor circuits. Uneventful until the landing when I came in, cut the power close to ground, and then proceeded to botch the low altitude auto. She dropped faster than I expected and I panicked a bit (I'll admit I was shaking the whole flight). Tail hit first and cracked both tail blades (the bottom fin must have flexed out of the way) and cracked both CF main skids where they bolt up. I guess it could have been worse. Darn...

It was going to just be a first hover to check out the power train but, before I knew it, I was flying around!

OH NO..... sorry to hear that but as you say, it could have been a LOT worse. How did it feel in flight? heavy?

Nope; not at all! All the power on board makes it quite nimble (I never even flipped it, though). Hence my comfort level in auto'ing it in. Without power, it dropped quicker than expected. Not a problem; just my mishandling of the landing.

Sorry to hear that, especially after the ESC/servo mishap. :-(

Wouldn't be fun if it were easy.

I noticed on my ship that the tail skid has a little less than 1cm of ground clearance sitting on a smooth flat surface with the tail blades at 4cm clearance.
That's really close so a flat careful landing is required.
The ships I see in videos flying appear to have a much greater clearance between the ground and tail skid.
I usually fly off black top but with the skids I'll be flying from grass, my poor tail blades will have a nasty green stain.
Landing a little hard will drive the tail skid into the ground and I'll be digging a hole with my tail blades.
You guys with greater tail skid clearance, how did you get it?

Default One of these things is not like the others

Okay, for those of you accustomed to looking at your Velos, what's different with mine below? Just trying to keep my holiday weekend intact. Hint: low rider...

You removed about a half inch from the gear legs at the top.

"Loww ri der is a little higher"
Now I'll have that song playing in my head all day...which is ok.

I am quickly buckling under to the pressure of getting my 880 flying...I am about to hit the reset button on my Urukay SK720BE and reprogram it for the 880.
I'll have it flying this week end.

Yup, but more like 0.75". They cracked at the attachment hole line and I cut below this to make sure I had clean, well-laminated material.

Again, this was all my fault; botched landing. Not a design issue!

In the spirit of the "photo/video" thread, here's a shot showing that the Kosmiks fit with a bit of creativity. Note Jlog interfaces for telemetry to monitor power balance.

Curious how well it works out with 2 ESC gov's running. I've seen one setup work well, and another not match up as well. External FBL gov's work well as we know.

Looking forward to seeing your results with this.

So just got my Velos last night and WOW is it big! One thing I've been wanting to see is a side by side comparison to get a sense of scale, so here are a few shots next to my Gaui X7 canopy and 700mm blades.
