Thumbs up New 130X FAI Canopy

Decided to get the new 130X FAI Canopy (BLH3739, $21.59).

It doesn’t seem to make much difference in flying (maybe a tiny bit more heavy, but that might be my imagination).

PRO’S:

Looks pretty good.
Flies well.
Easy to see.

CON’S:

The linkages are close in the pitch and aileron and almost rub against the canopy.

It’s more trouble to mount the battery. You have to completely remove the front section of the canopy to mount the battery. Not really a big deal.

On the tail you can see it doesn’t line up exactly. I’ve tried removing it and reattaching it but it’s still off, but not very noticeable. It could probably be adjusted by bending the canopy mounts.

The canopy sides connect using some kind of adhesive. You remove the paper coating after unpacking and the adhesive is exposed (about 1/8 inch along the seams) and you connect the two halves sticking them together (overlap) on the adhesive. I’m wondering how long the adhesive will last.

All in all, for a few bucks, I like it. The visibility while flying makes up for any negatives.

Thanks for the pictures!

So you keep the boom supports and everything intact?

Does it have room for longer boom supports?

I would call this a good start... to a factory Goblin fuselage. I'm not a bling guy, I don't care if my heli is the ugliest thing on God's green earth if it flies well, but if a Goblin style fuse was released for the 130 I'd be in hog heaven.

I would like to know how much it weighs, if anyone has the capability.

I think it will help visually flying it.

I wish it came in more and different colors, blue, green, red, etc.

I also wonder how much hotter the motor will get? Is there any vent holes?

Default FAI Canopy

Yes, the boom supports stay in place.

No, there are no vent holes. I flew it twice, back-to-back, and didn't notice anything unusual in terms of heat.

I have the Red Bull 130X and noticed it was a little toasty in the cockpit after a flight, same lack of air flow around the motor.

I am curious if you notice any aerodynamic effect, better or worse, I know you said you didn't notice anything so far.
