Default 600l front tt stripping gears

Hi all, I'm looking to buy the 600L Dominator but been put off by reading about the front tt gears stripping. Does this still happen or did align make the gears stronger?

Nothing changed on the gears unfortunately. With that said, if you use shims to tighten the gear mesh on the umbrella gears, use some grease and watch your tail and governor gains, you increase the lifetime of those gears by a lot. The lifetime of the gears also depends heavily on your flight style, sport 3D and cruising around is just fine, it's on hard 3D and very aggressive pulls that the gears take a beating.

You'll be fine with them in 95% of flying styles. It's when you crank the gain too high and do lots of piro reversals that causes issues. Shim the gears properly (buy some 0.1 and 0.2mm shims) and they're solid.

Both are good machines. The 550L is a bit smaller. The 600L has much more power and a bigger presence in the air, but crashes will cost significantly more.
You also need more expensive packs for the 600 (2 x 3000mAh 6s vs 1 x 5000mAh 6s)

I think I will go for the 600l then. I already have lots of 6s 3500 packs from my fixed wing aircraft so the lipid suit the 600 More. I will get some shims for the build then too!

I've got the 600 Pro with the upgraded motor, so mechanically identical to the 600L. I stripped those gears on mine early on but I've now had two years of flying without any issue on one single set of gears (and I'm running 105mm tail blades which increases the load on the gears).

I did the shimming mod to tighten the mesh but i think that maybe the biggest issue is that the governor on the Castle ESC is brutal, the gain needs to be set really low to avoid shocking the drivetrain. I understand that the very latest 600L comes with the Align/HW 130A ESC which should avoid the problem.

A gov gain of 18 blew by TT gears, I dropped it to 12 and all was ok. You can hear it when it's too high, it makes a sort of 'chirping' sound under hard collective input, it's quite subtle but once you know what to listen for it's not hard to detect.

I've since tried a YGE ESC and a Hobbywing and had no problems on default settings, so it does seem to be a combination of quite fragile gears and a ESC with a brutal governor.
