Default Alternative to Sab horns

Just when I thought I would be finished with my 550L build I go and break a servo horn tring to get everything setup...

Are there any less expensive servo horns...these sab ones are like 20 bucks shipped

If you are using standard size Align servos, the spline is the popular 6mm 25T. This is the same spline size used by Futaba, MKS (except for X8), BK, Xpert, Pro-Tek, Savox, etc. So you have lots of options (brand and models) for servo arms. JR and Spektrum servos use 23T splines, so not compatible with 25T splines.

The SAB arms are not easy to break. How did they break?

Decide whether you want to use aluminum or plastic servo horns. Then decide what servo horn hole length will work most optimally for your helicopter head geometry and FBL unit. Also, determine the size of the ball stud thread, as some servo arm holes may have holes too big for your ball studs. Small servo arm holes can be easily expanded to accommodate a large ball stud size.

It seems 25T should work. BK servos, I was using that silly tool to put the link on the servo horn.

I'm not really sure about all of those other options because this is my first time setting up this helicopter

OK. Between aluminum and plastic, maybe stick with plastic as plastic arms tend to be sacrificial in a crash and save the servo gears from stripping.

BTW, if you don't already have one, considering purchasing a ball link pliers tool.

Plastic servo arm options with 25T spline include:

1) Mikado

2) SAB

3) MKS (Very inexpensive, but one of the best constructed)

4) Align
skremon likes this.
