Default Align 35A Brushless ESC RCE-BL35X - Governor mode

Hi!

Do you hardore 3D guys use the governor mode on your Align 35A Brushless ESC RCE-BL35X on your T-Rex 450's? Yes I am of course interested in other's opinion, but I want to now what the people who flies hard 3D mean.

I am an upcoming hardcore 3D pilot. I run governor mode exclusively on CP helis. Most guys I see out there do not but honestly I didn't care what others were doing. I studied both options and made my decission.

I'm definitely not a hard core 3D guy, but I stared using gov mode. I like the consistence in head speed that I get. The one drawback I saw was when accidentally hit the throttle hold switch. Luckily, I was only about three feet up, but if I was higher, I would have been forced to auto before I was setup for it.

So you can't shoot a auto if you are running gov mode.

If a have understood it right, you haven't a throttlecurve when using governor mode. Is that true?

I am now running 13T and throttlecurve 100-100-100-100-100 with the 430XL motor.

You can do an auto with gov mode but don't expect a restart midair if you get the approach wrong. Also if you forget to hit throttle up in gov mode and you bring the stick down you have 0% chance of getting the motor started before you hit the ground. :p

You have a throttle curve flat usually 75% if you are geared right in gov mode.

Alot of guys run straight 100% in non governor mode with the 430XL. I like the consitent head speed too so I chose gov mode.

I only used my Align ESC for about a week. It worked fine in gov mode.

I just like Castle Creations ESC so I shelved my Align ESC for backup.

OK, thanks for answering. I have worked up my 3D skills in the last time. TicToc's, inverted hovering, flips and so on. That was why I was asking.

I think I will stick with the flat 100 curve and 13T pinion. If you can fly hard 3D with it, so...

I am still interested in more opinion's.

I may have misworded my answer. You can do autos in gov mode, it's just that once you hit throttle hold, you're not going to be able to take it out of TH and get any head speed to save an aborted auto. It takes a while to spool up, (which can be changed to spool up quick, but not safe).

I am nowhere near doing 3D stuff, but I switched from governor mode to non governor mode with my Align ESC.

See:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=739772

Another thing that bothered me about the Align ESC gov. mode is that it would recompute the governed speed if I brought the throttle to zero then brought it back up, as one would do when landing and taking off again (without removing power).

Anyone? What is the RPM limit for the 325 PRO Woodies?

If you were to do that you would probably swing 3300-3500rpm. That is considered to be pushing the limits on the wood blades(people don't like to run woodies past 3000rpm) . I would recommend getting the Align 325 carbon fibers (not the black ones that came with the V1 SE. The ones That come with the V2.) I use them and love them. They have a great airfoil on them which causes less bog. I'm pretty sure you would like them with your 430XL,13T, 100-100-100-100-100 throttle curve.

I have had excellent results running in gov mode over standard. I find the 35A to me more responsive in throttle changes and during 3D in gov mode compaired to setting a curve.

I am not sure setting 100 across the board is a good idea since the head will spool up higher when transitioning throught the zero pitch range. You can definitely hear it do this.

I run a 14T with MAH carbons and it's balls out on my T-Rex at 85% in stunt mode.

I run 75% in normal mode.

I get the same flight times either way, but gov mode gives me better flight.
