Default Agusta Bell 206B Jet Ranger III 700 size

Looks like it this year there is a lot of Jet Ranger builds on the forum .

A lot of new ideas more details seen and that is just fine. I was building few years a go a Facu fuselage of Jet Ranger III in 450 size and with Slovenian Army paint scheme.

Project was finished and outcome you can check on this link:
JET RANGER III Slovenian Army paint scheme & BeastX FBL (7 min 18 sec)

The project I have started in this year is 700 size Jet Ranger III with Flasher/Chaos 600 mechanics stretched to 700 size so cockpit can be added. With Flasher/Chaos mechanics there were quite few mods neded, I will explain all the mods and give as much as details possible thru posts,...

Flasher/Chaos Trex 600 E clone is good choice for mechanics part it has 54mm of space between frames so there is bigger variety of motors to be used.

Mechanics and some of the electronics to start the build:

The build is quite streightforward except the aditional sanding is needed so the parts can fit as supposed.

What I have discovered is that Flasher/Chaos somehow lost third bearing somewere with upgrades so it was necessary to add this great Trex 600 E benefit.

I have used QUICKUK part article: TXD03-B T-REX 600 N Lower Mainshaft Bearing
Block.

NOTE: this part is 54mm wide so it will not fit into regular Trex 600ESP,...

Hi Xsiluro,

Pretty good army 450 Jetranger ..and nice flying..do you still have contact with Facu?
does he continue to make the Fuselage?

I had one Jetranger from him years ago...unfortunately it crashed and the front canopy has damages.it takes a great deal of work to repair it.

I thought I might order another from him....seems he 'disappear' from heli community.

Best,
Helikid

Helikid hi, unfortunately I do not have any contacts with Facu. If you ask me his fuselage was one of the best Jet Ranger fuselage out there for 450 size mechanics.

Hi Peter,
agreed that his creation is best and accurate 450 size so far.its a pity he has problems fullfilling orders..

p/s-I am working on a 470size Bell 407 and also a 700-Bell 407 soon.

cheers,

So let's move on. With help and suggestions of Andy01 I decided to use below powerplant solution depending on desired head speed:

I am using ;
ALIGN 750MX motor with 450kV
12S (44,4 V) Lipo = 2x 6S 5000mAh 25C
YGE 90HV ESC
Gryphon HV BEC
pinion 13T straight teeth from Revco Hard one
ALIGN CNC Main Drive Gear/164T article: HN7019-2
KDE Direct Universal Main Gear Case Align 550/600 AT550/600-UMGC
ALIGN Autorotation Tail drive gear set article : H60020AT ,
ALIGN One Way Bearing Shaft article.: H60139AT

Calculation is: 44,4*450kV*0,9*13T/164T = 1425 RPM at the end of flight

Since I have decided to use left rotating main rotor I need to turn One Way Bearing around, I have one handy tool to to that

OWB is turned and main gear is ready for mechanics install !

Diffrence between regular main gear and upgraded one!

As said in first post third bearing blok was missing so I have added this great upgrade, motor will thank me later on

Coming next Motor install and front Torque tube gears upgrade,...

To install ALIGN 750MX 450kV motor beast with 52mm diameter into the mechanics. I needed new motor mount since Flasher/Chaos does not have supporting distance and hols to mount chosen motor on it !

I have used KDE DIRECT AT550/600-UMM ALIGN TREX 550/600 Universal Motor Mount with additional KDE DIRECT instalation kit CH600-XXX. As I mentioned earlier space between frames is 54mm wide. I haven't got need to shorten motor shaft so I left it as it is and I screw on it the 13T Revco Hard one pinion.

When motor and motor mount were set I have decided to change Flasher/Chaos torque tube gears for new harden ALIGN ones and complete tail part, so postman soon delivered the needed goods:

Articles for front torque tube parts upgrade used:
-H6NG001XXT M0,6 Torque Tube Front Drive Gear Set/40T
-H60103T Bearing (684ZZ)
-H60125T Bearing (6701ZZ) 2 pcs and 2 pcs i will use with tail upgrade

And upgrade finished

Coming next Trex 700 boom shortening,....

Trex 700 boom shortening is needed, so the torque tube will fit as supposed.
Upgrade is quite easy all you need is dremel tool and driling machine to drill a hole that secures tail section not to slide off or turn on boom.

Articles needed for stretching upgrade:
ALIGN 700 Boom article: HN7047
ALIGN Torq Tube article: HN7056T
ALIGN Torq Tube Bearing holder set article: H60124T

Front of the boom only needs opening to be extended to 26mm, that part goes into tail boom case.

On the end of the trex 700 boom cuting is needed to be performed by 40mm away from the end of the boom.

What is left to be done is a hole so the tail section can be screwed into place. Since I have decided I will be using tail rotor on the left side of the heli (as real Jet Ranger does) I made the hole on the right side, how far depends on how tail section sits on the boom not to press Torque tube between both gears in front tail boom case and tail mechanics at the back of heli. You need to test that your selves and decide by trying.

Next upgrade I have decided to make when looking at the Flasher/Chaos parts was complete tail mechanics section.

Articles for tail section upgrade used:

-H60250T 600ESP Metal Tail Pich assembly/black
-HN6103BT V2 Metal Tail Rotor holder/Silver
-H60077AT Metail Tail Pich Assembly
-H60G003XXT Torque Tube Rear Drive Gear Set
-AT550/600/700-PTU-V2 KDE DIRECT ALIGN TREX 550/600/700 series Performance Tail upgrade V2

This concludes tail section and its mechanical upgrades, next will be main rotor upgrades ,...

So the last mechanics part but probably not leased was main rotor parts upgrade and tail blades - more about tail blades later on.

Flasher/Chaos swashplate was so hard moving at the central bearing I have lost any hope for using it. By changing swashplate I changed also main shaft and ball joints.

Articles used:
- Swashplate;
http://www.quickuk.eu/products/5/websho ... xc-05.html
- ball joints;
http://www.quickuk.eu/products/305/webs ... h2031.html
ALIGN main shaft for TREX 600E/N article: H60159T
SpinBlades asimetrical 105mm scale blades

Rotor head dampening was too hard by stock dampers so I have changed the plastic for o-rings, the softer ones even softer than ALIGN gray solution. I bought them localy from company producing them http://www.altes.si/o-ringi.html . On the picture are dimensions 7x3mm are the right ones for Trex600 main rotor head.

So that is information about majority of mechanical upgrades. I do plan to use a scale main rotor head, but regarding that I still need to decide on solution. I will use one or two entire posts just regarding that part,....

Next taste of what I want heli to look like at the end of this build

So far, so good. The mechanics should pose very little trouble to get setup and working well. However, your calculations do not seem to be right for some reason. When I take your motor, gear, pinion, and cell count, and then plug it into one of the well used speed calculators, I get 1427rpm at 100% throttle. That will not last long and it will be slowly spinning down over the useful life of the battery. I would go to a 14t pinion and then govern the head speed at 92% which will give you a fairly constant 1422rpm for the useful life of the battery pack. Running wide open will not give you consistent performance throughout the flight. You are close. One other thought is to try out a slower head speed (1250 to 1350rpm) which will be easy with the smaller pinions you have at your disposal. Take care.

Hi Don, thanks for your suggestions, I will not spin the motor at 1425 RPM but at 1300 RPM maybe even less. I am using Mikado Vbar governor so everything is as supposed and predicted

Link to web calculator from Mr.Mel
http://heli.dacsa.net/calcv3/

Which calculator did you use I find mentioned calculation fair enought.

Looking really good! I'll be following along on this one! Very smart upgrading the tail. I didn't do the tail gears until I needed to. I wish I would have done it sooner. Pulling everything out of your heli once your almost finished is no fun.

Flsurfer7 I agree with you, that is why I started this build a bit differently than my other builds by mechanics beeing set, upgraded and tested standalone before I install it into the fuselage.

Peter:

I use the calculator that I got from scalerchelis.com and found it to be very easy to use and pretty much spot on with calculations vs. reality. It defaults to a governed 92.5% of full speed that you will get when you setup your gearing and motor in the program. Like many other scale pilots, I find that I am only using one speed for flying and seldom will change it so if I find that my helicopter prefers to fly at a lower head speed, I look at changing the gear ratio so that I am at or near the top speed of the gear ratio and motor. Looking at Mr. Mel's results, you should be running somewhere between 1330 and 1380 rpm which is a good target speed range to go for. The one I use will put the rpm at 92.5% (1320rpm) which is pretty well spot on for the speed I would get with Castle Creation controllers. Adjustments can be made to set it where ever you want but I find that the speed controllers, motors, and batteries run their coolest at those settings. Hope this helps.

I agree Don,

the RPM between 1330 - 1380 should be the one to go for. I will see where I have best feeling when flying the ship. I will be flying only with that RPM.

Thanks for suggestions those are always welcome

There is one question I just have: what is the attack angle (pitch) min and max you use on your heli with low RPM?

So here it is the beauty in design and simplicity of parts Agusta Bell 206B Jet Ranger III. I have bought ROBAN fuselage for my project at scaleflying.de. I was quite impressed by details and some fails in accuracy compared to the real thing.

Packing was superb No way fusalage could be damaged

Had to put instantly mechanics parallel with fuselage. I was having feeling fuselage is huge.

Here it is beauty and the beast partly put together.

I am so looking forward working on this fuselage, almost just can't wait ,..
But first things first ,...

NEXT main and tail blades,...

Default Jet Ranger season

Hello Peter, great timing on the thread. I'm just starting on the same project with the same fuse and Trex 600esp mechanics doing the helicopter that hangs in the Newseum in Washington D.C.. Hi Mike,

I am happy, that informations from my build would be helpfull to colleagues scale builders. My idea was to make detailed build report in one place starting with mechanics and than to the details on fuselage with the comparing to the real helicopter.
