Default Elevator servo failure

I have had two elevator servos fail in the past week. First one was a torq 9180 that was 4 flights old on my g4. Stripped a pressed in gear. Second was a rjx HV on my e700 and the servo motor locked up. I have read about the elevator servo mount breaking. Is there a design problem or is it just coincidence?

I am running RJX servos on my e700 with no problems. Is it possible that you are accidentally inputting the wrong frequencies for those particular servos?

I already had about 100 flights so I don't think the setup was wrong but I will double check when I rebuild. I was also going to make sure I don't tighten the servo until after I mount the servo horns. Not sure if I put them into a bind causing premature failure? Servos were quiet when on the bench but who knows when under load.

It happened again. anybody else have elevator servo problems? My torq 9180 failed in flight. This time it cost me a couple hundy. These servos are only 15 flights old.

Just a long shot but maybe check the wiring. Being the elevator servo, you will have an extension wire. Check for any cuts or shorts in the wiring. Maybe it is sending the servo into a spasm and locking it up or over driving it.

Never had this problem with hundred of flights on both G4 and E700.

There's advice going around that you should mount the servos loosely, until you get the push-pull put together, so they're not under stress. It could be that the "natural" mounting for the elevator servo requires you to force the system together and put on strain.

Tighten before locking the servo collar to square, of course.

Using bx. I made sure I left everything loose until setup menu G. The servo failed in the same way. One of the smaller pressed gears slipped inside the larger gear. This servo is new. I don't have an extension and the wire is covered with braid. I will double check everything tomorrow.

I am also using FB blades. Could that be the cause? Thanks again for any input.

The push pull design has very minimal stress on the servo. No where near the amount of a direct to swash design. The design has nothing to do with it.
There is sometging else not right.

I have the servo torn down for repairs but when I put it back together I will post pics. Nick Maxwell will be in town this weekend so I will see if he can give me any insight. Thanks again.

I know this thread is old but wondering if OP found out why his servo stripped the gear. I noticed mine had a touch of play on my G700. Didn't think much of it but its costing me a few hundred in repairs right now. If the rest are prone to failure I'll just get rid of them. thanks for any help.

I never found the cause but I think it may be related to the way I had the BX set up. There are two 140* settings and I was using the wrong one. User error on my part.
