Default trex 800?

hi guy.

I got the possiblility to put hands on a trex 800 (RH80E03X) brand new just assembled and one flight for tunning. this price seem pretty nice about 1000$ cdn less than a unopen kit. want to know it it a good move? currently do sport flight/light 3d. I flew trex 150, 450l, and a 500l. What pack will be good for use with this monster? servo bl800h/bl850h good servo? I dont care about the 3gx my 450l go this and flew fine with the firmware 5.0

what you think of this

I have the same 800 you are looking at. It's big! The 850mx motor is powerful and has lots of torque. The servos are strong however they are not as quite compare to the newer 815/855 servos. But that's not a issue to me. The 800/850 and the 815/855 have the same torque and speed. But the 815/855 don't make any sound really. Also they have a shroud over the wires. Makes a cleaner look.

I got mine second handle as well and paid around 1200 for it.just make sure everything, Like everything that is metal to metal screw is loctite. I had my 800 for a while and notice that the motor pinion was not straight with the main gear. The screws holding the pinion were not loctite. Idk if they don't have to be, but I did it anyways.

If you want to do mild to hard 3D the 800 can, but a 700 is better for it. I do some tic toc's and rainbows/big air. The sound of the blades farting is every nice.

I just got 800mm blades put on and looking forward to this next flight.

I went from a blade 450x/360. To a align 600. Then 800.

The float is great. Can auto for a long time.

Batteries I use pulse 5500mah 45c. With some room to spare. I know 6k mah packs can also fit. Almost of people use 5k packs.

Hope this helps.

$1000 off sounds great if the helicopter really just had that one tuning flight. Makes me wonder why the seller would sell it though . Anyway, there can be good reasons. I bought my T-Rex 800E from another HF and it wasn't even built yet.

The 800/850 servos work great. I haven't had a single servo failure so far, they even survived a few crashes without issues.

I use 2x 5000 mAh 6s 45C GensAce LiPos and one 2s 5000 mAh GensAce LiPo as a receiver battery. This may look oversized, but this battery is only rated 1C (=5 A) for discharge and I don't want the voltage to drop when the servos work hard. If you're going to use a BEC, you won't have to worry about that.

The 3GX does work, however if you're not sure that you can safely handle every flight attitude, you may want to use a FBL unit with a bailout feature. I use an Ikon fbl unit and I'm very happy with it.

+1 on what scjon03 said about Loctite. Proper greasing also comes to mind, there's no such thing as too much grease in the thrust bearings.

Hi, 800 can deffo do 3D bit heavy for competition smack but still very capable.
Alan Szabo Jr. ALIGN Trex 800E DFC 850MX Dominator 2/5/2014 (4 min 27 sec)

Lipo wise it will govern what ESC is in the heli. You'll want a 12/14S setup and anything from 4500mah to 7000mah capacities. With the 850MX motor for it to perform well you may want a high C rated set of Lipos but you'll only notice that if you are good 3D pilot as the 850MX is a very powerful motor and will bring lower C rated lipos down quite warm. I fly mine on 12S and just Turnigy 35C lipos but my flying style is just big air and beginner 3D and then the lipos do get hammered even on 1700rpm. An 800 will eat up alot of sky. For $1000 I'd take it as even if you don't like it and you dont bend it you'll not lose much $ on it. With those servos it sounds like it was a combo set maybe.

One thing I will say is that the Align OWB's are made of cheese so source a KDE one and with the 850MX I'd recomend the black DELRIN upgraded gears which are tougher. JUst looked at that model code and it's the 3D version of the 800 and not the trekker 800 so if sold with that motor probably already upgraded - though I'd check the OWB. DELRIN gears are black by the way. Buy it and I bet when you first hover that thing you'll say "kiiiiinell"!

Stick with the 780s - the 800 has such a wide chord that mine was very sensitive in hover. 780 is a nice blade.

Also spend a little time with HSCalc and make sure that your headspeeds do not drop your throttle (PMS) too low or motor or ESC will likely warm up more than necessary.

Have fun!!

currently run it in fix endpoint flat throttle curve do some sport flight ligh 3d motor temp never goes over 179f on hot sunny day. was afraid of gov mode never try that on all my heli. but 2 month ago put trigger on a 700n dfc rtf. and it was on gov mode on the beastx and love it some gonna give a try to the 800. what would be the best option, upgrade my 7300bx to v4 and use beastx gov or use the castle 160 gov

The castle governor works very well but I have run the Spartan internal gov and now the Mikado Neo and they are better yet.
