What do your cutting bits look like? And what's the PCD coating? Is it a diamond type finish?

Hi.
You are doing something wrong that carbide tools don`t last longer.
I use 0.8 and 1.5mm carbide cutters with diamond and coating and last for 12-20 hours for 0.8mm and 18-24hours for 1.5mm no problem, with perfect results.
I cut mostly CF and GF, and little of plywood and balsa with those cutters.
I had carbide cutters with no coating but it looses sharpness after 2-3 hours. If edges are not that important it last at least 8 hours if you are adapting feed rate even more.

I use double site tape as well but I never cut through tape because tape close cutting edge of the tool, there come to much resistance on the tool and brake.

Other possible reasons for braking are:
-not enough rpm
-too much feed
-you take to much material at once
-machine is not rigid enough
-accelerations are to big (if machine is not rigid enough is this a big problem)
-hard lead in on toolpath, (use lead ins or ramping to cut in the material)
-If tool don`t spin centered that reduces tool life.

I can cut for days with the same bit in GF, it's the CF that wears them out fast. Kyocera bits are cheap, I have tried many different strategies and settled on where I am at. Machine is rigid, accel tuned for the small parts, runout is good.

What feeds and speeds do you use on CF with uncoated carbide?

6K twill weave? Where do you get the carbon sheet? is one side textured?

1.5mm 18500rpm, feed 3500mm/min, Depth of cut/pass: ~1/2 D (0.8mm) strategy: constant z machining >spiral

CF:
Carbide not coated:
1.5mm 18000rpm, feed 2500, Depth of cut/pass: ~1/3 D (0.55mm) strategy: constant z machining >spiral (I don`t use them any more for CF)

As I wrote your problem is probably cutting double site tape!

That data I wrote is for perfect finish

I am running very close to the same chip load, much slower speeds and feeds, similar strategy. The tape I use is .09mm thick, and I get the same results cutting through it or just up to it, actually get the best results when the final pass is .2mm deep into the sacrificial board.

These are only 3K but I will get 6K in future. I get my CF out of china but it is 100% CF no Fiberglass sandwich...

These have glossy finish on both sides.

Hi petertha.
Aluminum parts are made at work on HS milling machine, all CFK parts are made on my CNC router at home.
This is (almost all part) conversion from nitro robbe millennium 90 helicopter to electric.
I have no build treed about it but i can give you some info.
Basic for build was main drive train. I add trust bearings on main shaft and make it rigid as much as possible with no play in links and adjustable tracking on the tail to eliminate all possible vibrations. Every thing else was build around that to fit.
It was my first FBL heli and still my favorite one.
Setup at the moment:
-Radix 710 V2
-Edge 105
-Scorpion HK-4035 560KV
-PowerJive 120-HV
-AC-3X FBL
-BLS 251 1x
-DS 8717 3x
-JLog 2
-Jeti DS-16 radio with RSat2
-With Turngy Nanotech 4000 12S (2x6s) it weights 4.7kg

At the moment I`m designing stronger main gear (I have striped 2 gears this year)

I used 2 bits 1) 1/32" 1) 1/16" to cut everything in these pic.
I also used the same bits to cut rev one of my vibe but that doesn't count since it was G10.

i need a motor mount with a heat sink , only problem is heat sink will be 35mm deep.
it can be cut from the side which is 9.5mm deep
the space between the fins can be increased or decreased for easier cutting.
any of you guys have experience with that?
