Default Class S1...380 sized Speed!

Let's see your small speed helis! Class S1 here we go!!!

I'm running an MSH Protos 380 on 8S. Currently spinning around 3700rpm (and constantly climbing) and around 13.5 of collective.

I can consistently hit about 110mph with this setup. (vid below, with a peak of 188kph/116mph)

What are you guys running?

We have two dudes in Finland having a small "race to 200km/h" at the moment with G380's.

We're getting there, we have so far blown heli's, esc's, batteries and so on but hey, that's just the essence of hobby

But we are getting there

Quite hard to get any videos, too small, these rascals

I love seeing this kind of stuff, guys! This is what it's all about... I'm telling you that S1 and S2 will be responsible for getting more new speed freaks hooked than any of the other classes because of how accessible and easy these models are. Keep up the great work and hook us up with more videos!

Tested various, between 14 and 17 pitch, rpm around 4000 - 4200. I drilled a hole to the ground with it last time so it's waiting for rebuild and some ideas during winter.

A bit short lived, these little rascals

I've got a KDE500XF (925kv) running on 8S in mine. For batteries I am running two 4S 1300mah 65C Turnigy Graphene packs, if you can believe that!

Excellent. I should be up to 4000 soon, and around 14.

Hope you get rebuilt soon!

I recently built one too. They seem to have a
Tendency to boomstrike at headspeeds over 4400 rpm. 10s is awesome. 2 explosions in a matter of 10 flights isn't.

I'm the other dude TeroS mentioned.
I had result with TeroS speed measuring thing of 168,5 km/h two way average speed. Oneway highest was 174 km/h.
More power is needed for win the "race to 200km/h"

Setup at the moment is HW 100A ESC and Scorpion custom made 3226 motor.
6S battery.
For speed flying i'm going to raise battery to 9S. Motor kv is too high for 10S because it was made for X3 speed project wich was not succesful
Gaui X3 Speed edition By Konna Test 2 (2 min 38 sec)

X3 vauhtikoneen viimeinen? testi (1 min 6 sec)

My Goblin was build from parts of destroyed X3 just 2 days before our SpeedCup in finland. Now i have time to tune this Goblin to warp speed!

And speed measuring equipment is Linus Larsson camera based speed measuring system.

Let me see if I can bring this thread back to live a little. I'm wondering if you guys got more flights in and were able to push the speeds closer maybe above the 200 limit?

I've been tinkering with my Protos 380 to use it for speed flying and before the winter rain set in in November I got it up to 105.8mph (170 km/h) max and 101.7mph (163km/h) average through a single short length (120m) pass on 6S setup with a Hobbywing P v4 100A and the KDE 500xf motor (that thing is a beast for 380 applications). I use the GPS data to analyze the pass speeds (you might have seen my other thread about that too https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=766660).

So for Christmas I surprised myself with a new ESC and I'm working on moving up to 8 cell 435 graphite packs, also going up with the pinion. If weather allows I might maiden it in a few weeks. The Protos 380 was tested extensively with 4000+ RPM and I have confidence that it'll take it. Could this setup maybe break the 200 km/h barrier?

By the way here's the GE shot of the max I got out of the Protos 380 on 6 cells. The number marks on the flight path are GPS speeds in mph and the pass averages are on the left side in the sidebar.

From my experience 4000+ is needed on headspeed and rest is keeping it spinning that speed. Power and pitch are both important.
Your setup could go 200km/h. Just go for it! Average speed 200km/h wont be easy to achieve with these little rascals but time will tell.

My Goblin 380 has been collecting dust on the shelf but i will start tuning it soon. Thanks for inspiration by raising this topic

Yes the biggest question is how well the power system with the KDE motor will hold head speed over 4000 with 14-15 pitch when fully loaded. You are right I expect that it can go fast if the power system is up to it. A little extra help is the 8S graphite 4.35 pack equals to an "8.3S" normal 4.2 pack when fully charged, it's a little more kick for the ESC. I will keep you posted.

Yes by all means please undust the Goblin 380, I would very much like to see how far you can push her. I was using my goblin 380 for speed for a little but I felt she was a little too heavy.

Undusting is started by cleaning my wiring and now i need to order batteries. 9S will be setup. And i will install LED lights on tailboom to help with turns. First testflight maybe in two weeks
