Default Matterhackers - NylonX

I was curious if anyone here has tried this filament: NylonX? It's a nylon filament mixed with chopped carbon fiber.

Seems like they have some really high hopes: "The high precision of this filament makes it a potential replacement for aluminum using 3D printing instead of CNC milling. "

Default NylonX

I just ordered it and will be trying it on my Rostock Maxv2. I am excited about it as I have a shapeoko CNC machine as well but cutting carbon fiber even submerged in water scares me. The potential for CF dust still making its way into the surrounding air & lungs is not worth the risk. This filament might be the perfect trade off. As soon as I get it and print will post picture and provide feedback.

Printing on a rostock max v2 as well.

Just got the new HE280 autoprobing hot end and ss nozzle for this.

Really interested to see what settings work best for you. What nozzle size do you plan on printing with?

My spool of NylonX is here already, just need some time to fire up the printer.

Finally came time to give this filament a shot, had a particular part in mind for it. Spent most of the day fiddling with settings.

Calibration cubes came out great, however going to the larger print, about 40min in it starts to lift off the bed. Gave up after 3 failed prints.

I made it through this print using abs 1st shot with zero problems.

Anyone have any luck with larger nylon prints? I purchased some wolfbite nitro to try out.

Bit of a learning curve with this stuff, also my first foray into nylon filament. Had lots of problems that left quite the scrap pile of parts!

In the end my Rostock required a few parts to get the extruder running hot enough. This last print I was running at 270C/85C. Extruder was holding +-5C, the bed is just rock solid.

The hardest part was getting the print to stick to the bed during the duration of the build. I tried a couple different products. What worked for me was Elmer's washable glue stick. The purple one. I had to use copious amounts before seeing any success.

Little bit of tuning left to do, but at least I'm starting to see some success.
