What people don't understand they are afraid of.

Is it though?

Not too distant tech could have low-latency, long distance FPV links. These could be chasing cars, bad guys (good guys?), diplomatic motorcades, shooting bullets...

scare mongering for sure, but a valid point and a good measure of the general public's inital reaction to these machines.

I'm sure these things are a possibility, but compared to the dangers we face from other things in everyday life, like driving past drunks inches across the center line, I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

Yes it may be possible a drone could hunt this guy down in the near distant future, however It would be more believable to me if he had wrote a story about how he was concerned about alien drones (UFO's) piloted by artificial intelligent entities that tend to randomly abduct people and animals for cruel scientific experiments rather than a multicopter that has about three minuets worth of flight time... Lol

What has always confused me is, "why now".

What is so different about a quad that makes everyone afraid? RC airplanes have been capable of carrying cameras for years. Why is Joe Public so worried about just the quads?

There's airplane FPV people claiming 4 hours of battery life. Stick it on UHF and they're flying miles of flight distance away from their take-off base.

One person here said that he had to really learn to fly and and that the problem was these newfangled auto pilots and that they would be the death of the
hobby. I think it might have been the same person who said flybarless helis would just be a passing phase that real heli hobbyists would never fall for.

A quad requires some sort of computer control to fly, unlike a plane. A plane with a camera is a known quantity, and its capabilities are more limited.

A quad is always 'semi autonomous' (stabilized at least), which makes it more similar to a 'drone'. They are also new technology are are more easily associated with other new technological advancements.

I miss this guy, he was sort of entertaining in his very very long written rantings on how everyone who owned MR's would ruin the aviation hobby in whole. Of course I'm being sarcastic
