That's really cool that the TelMe is integrated.

actually - integrated TelMe, up to 9V BEC and Kosmik governor.

So not all the parameters one would expect to get from the TelMe, especially the mah consumption?

??? Why not mAh usage? I have a few TelMe running on my Kosmik ESC's and they deliver mAh. I simply fly based on that info. Compared to charging the batteries the numbers are very close. So I am not sure why the TelMe on the new units should not have the info.

Not sure where that came from. On K's site it just says that Tellme functionality is integrated.

I just misunderstood the "...up to 9V BEC and Kosmik governor..." comment as meaning that the integrated TelMe function in the new Kontronik ESCs would be limited to BEC voltage and RPM. So if I understand you correctly, the integrated TelMe would give all the parameters expected from a stand alone TelMe. If that's the case, that would be great. No need to purchase a separate $85.00 TelMe. I assume the integrated TelMe would be compatible with all radio systems by just selecting the appropriate "box" in the K-Konfig?

With the existing TelMe units there's a different one for each receiver/FBL brand. Just wondering how one ESC with integrated TelMe is going to work with all the different receiver/FBL brands. To be honest I never understood why they needed so many different TelMe units when the difference was probably only firmware and connectors.

good question - I am not overly concerned. On SW you normally should be able to choose the option what output protocol you want. It maybe interesting to see how its done

On the Telme I suspect the microcontroller used doesn't enough memory to support all possible protocols at once. Sure, you could add add USB in order to flash a new firmware, but that would increase size, complexity, and cost. There might also be some hardware differences due to different voltage signaling levels across the different hardware interfaces.

Surely you'd just connect to USB via a ProgDisc or ProgUnit like you would any of their other products. I'd say producing, packaging and distributing multiple different units is more costly.

Requiring ProgUnit/ProgDisc is another external dependency. Additional cost for multiple units exists, but seems limited to packaging.

One issue nearly always overlooked is support costs. Having dedicated devices with zero options significantly reduces support costs.

I'm not saying it's the right or wrong approach. These are architectural decisions every development team faces. Just stating whey they may have done what they did.

Yeah good point. I took it for granted because I have a ProgDisc but others might not.

I guess I'm torn, I like the idea of having a universal device that would work with multiple systems and I also like the simplicity of a true plug and play device.

Latest news on it is from January 26th 2018:
Quote:
In 2017 we announced the KOLIBRI series for summer / autumn 2017. But during our tests and validations we found some details, that we wanted to optimize before going to market. Despite the announcement, it is most important for us to provide a carefully tested product that meets our own expectations – even if it takes longer than planned. We are now again testing and validating the ESCs and therefore we do not yet want to make any new announcement. But please be sure, that we are working on it with high pressure!
