Default Play between main and crown gear

As above, mine has developed some play between the main and crown gear - is that supposed to even be there? Probably have to shim if it isn't.
Also, I have this annoying @(#*$# clicking noise coming from the tail transmission.. I'm still hunting for the source but i've isolated it away from the tail box. Sounds like the bevel gear but it seems to be running smooth from what i can tell so far.

I took the tail off and spun it up by hand looking straight down at the gear, doesn't seem to be running out of shape. I removed the 3rd shim under the main gear, and it seems to run smoother now. Traced the click to the pin inside the universal join rattling in the cup, now i wonder how i'm supposed to get rid of that noise.

Also, i seem to have some play in the reduction gear shaft - able to slide the gear up and down.. is that normal or do i shim that off as well?

bearings feel smooth so far, i'll check again by removing all of them.. yeah, no shims stated in the manual so i assumed it didn't need to - i'll do that when i get back from work later and check back after a spool up.

Ok, flight report - Almost got rid of all the major vibes, left with the really minor fin rattling one. All of it because of that silly reduction gear, added a washer to the top and it seems to be holding well now.

Yea mine has up & down play between main gear & crown gear. Is this normal. There aren't anymore shims supplied that I can use. I have the .5 shim in there already.
