Default Any of you seen this belt drive kit?

Not really a worth while upgrade, just something cool and different.

I don't get it.. Please Esplain!

Can you show some pictures with contact to the motor pinion? I see no teeth for the main gear.

I assume the top black belt powers the tail?

Looks really cool!

This should do the trick.

Very quiet compared to the stock setup, I dont think there is any increased performance.

Looks like a cool design and I can see how it would be quieter, but my main concern would be static issues that so many 500 users dealt with. We all had enough issues with just one belt producing static... this design is potentially 3 times as bad. Otherwise, it looks great!!

The guy who makes the kits is reporting no static, and actually is marketing it as a remedy? Not sure how that works out as I dont have any static issues to begin with.

Link to the kit.

You certainly would eliminate stripping the main gear with this solution!

He says around 45g heavier, but they are going to weigh them tonight and see.

wonder what's the benefit other than noise reduction? to me it is just a novelty. makes it much harder to repair

You just transfer the force to the head instead. I rather strip the cheap main gear than applying even more force during a crash to the head.

Also to need a custom made frame and frameparts is negative in my opinion. More expensive and harder to get a hold of...

I see the torque tube (TT) as a much better solution. Then you eliminate the belt totaly, instead of adding two more. TT is barely any heavier than belt setup and easy maintenance. And much cheaper.

BUT it looks cool though and I am sure it is good quality

My biggest concern with this all along has been that adding belts = more drag = less power/flighttime + more heat

Just seems silly to me. Not trying to knock on it, but if there's actually a real benefit to this system... I have yet to see it.

20g difference.

Flight times seem to be the same.

Like I said in the beginning, not a worthwhile upgrade. Just something different. If it wasnt for people trying different things we would get no where in this hobby

im getting one of these kits next month. i have 2 x4e's already, and i love em.... belt dive is very nice, and very quiet.

the benefits i see on my hoss x4e's are:

-quieter
-no main gear to strip. oh, and the forces dont "transfer to the head" as one guy says, the belt will just slip....
-overall quality, the fit and finish is excellent is a much better quality bird in the end. imo.
-excellent engineering!

-not running the same old crap. its a little different. ;-)

Hi Ginnz

I am the guy who said the forces dont "transfer to the head"

When I see the setup, I see belts and gears with teeth. How is the belt going to slip without risking stripping a few teeth on one or more of the belts? Is there a built in mechanism somewhere that releases tention of the belt in a crash. Please explain, because I stripped teeth on my belt tail, from time to time during a crash.

sue, theres a chance tou could strip a tooth off the belt, but in x4e's ive never had it happen, kinda like he tail belt, 80% of the time, it'll slip. i guys if youd hid the dirt full throttle with no intent to let off, of hit TH, youd inflict sugnificent damage, but most of us hit TH before that happens.... i also rweally like the third bearing on the mainshaft that holds the bottom of the "pulley" as well...

ill ley you guys know how the build and first flights go.....since owning the the X4E, and buying my second one, i was totally sold on the Hoss set-up, as a matter of fact i aquired an X4 from the same guy who sold me the second X4E, and Thomas is building me a few parts that were missing..... i figured, what the heck i have enough stuff laying around to build it, i may keep it for my son, i may sell it to my brother-in-law, i my use it for a scale bird.... i dunno.

but ive been eyeing the X5R since last summer, and now that i bought a 500 rex, i jumped right on it, as Thomas is a home modeler, and this is just a part time thing for him, you get on a list, and he custom makes the stuff for you..... the drive system is virtially indestuctable, the only thing you'd need in event of a major crash may be a drive/secondary belt, and frame sides, which are 30 something a set.... but if that happens you got bigger problems..... ;-)

ill keep ya updated.

This set up is similar to my Protos - but the Protos has only one belt drive and is very quiet, not to metion so much lighter. As SkunkyMagoo says, it is great for the hobby that we have innovative thinkers that try and improve product, for without them the product would stagnate.

This looks a bit like the transmission in the Blitz Avro.
