Default 480 Sub forum?

So, I see there are now threads calling for Logo 700 and logo 500 or 550 sub forums and yet the 480 has been around seemingly forever yet no sub forum!? It would be greatly appreciated if this could be created. As I look toward moving upward and onward from Blade helis, this is one of the ones I am considering the most.

Any chance of this happening? There is even talk of a new version, I see. It would be nice to have it all in one handy dandy place.

We're past this. All the helis with the 500DX plastic frame, as well as helis based on old models (namely LOGO 400/400 SE/480) go into the main Mikado forum, the 700/800 XXtremes and their predecessor (LOGO 700) got their own subs. It's always been like that.

So, a new person to the hobby or new trying to find info on the 480 is supposed to know that the 480 XXtreme is apparently either based on an old model or has a 500 DX frame? Kind of ironic they won't actually learn that bit of info due to the difficulties of finding 480 specific info on this site in one easy spot. Just because something has "Always been that way " doesn't make it right or mean that the situation cannot or should not be improved.

This is one of the few situations where it is easier to find info at RCgroups about a particular heli than it is here. Completely illogical.

By that logic, every LOGO needs its own sub. The forum admins said no in the past. Not that I'm against it, it's not gonna happen though.

Before the site changed hands it was about to happen. I guess the new management does not think it is needed.

Why would it be a problem to have a sub for each model?

The idea that the 480 has the same frame as something else and therefore should not get a sub forum is ludicrous. Apparently the person that came up with that idea hasn't perused the Blade section recently. The 250cfx has its own category despite using the 300 frame. The 450 and 450 x each have their own sub, despite the fact they are essentially the same Heli with different electronics. And, if IIRC, the 550 and 600 and maybe the 700 all share a frame. Apparently this is one area where it pays to be a Blade flyer rather than a Mikado flyer. Oh, almost forgot that the MCPX BL and The MCPX each have their own sub too.

This should be a no brainer when it comes to easily accessing information about a particular model. Easily finding info, photos and help should be a priority.

Default 480 Sub forum?

just because something has "always been that way" doesn't mean it needs changed either. Sometimes there's a good reason why it has been that way.

However, I do reckon the 480 is different enough from the others that it would be good in its own subforum. It only shares a few drivetrain and head parts with the others.

But I think everything from the 500 to the 690 in one forum makes sense, because they're all just variations on the same airframe, constructed the same way, use a lot of the same parts, and the parts that aren't the same are only different in terms of size, like boom length/diameter, mod.07 vs mod.1, and so forth. One could build a 500 using a 600se manual if they had a little common sense when it comes to front skid placement, and bolt lengths for boom clamps and other minor changes.

The 700, 700xx and 800xx should each have their own, since they're all different from each other.

If you go to a Chevy truck forum, they don't have seperate subforums for the 2dr, extended cab, and 4dr models, or LT vs WT, since they're variations of the same truck. But they might have seperate ones for a 1500 and a 3500HD, as they're all different in frame, suspension, and engine and stuff.

I have been waiting for someone to make this point! I wanted to make it myself but don't have enough knowledge about the 480 and figured i would put my foot in my mouth if I did say it.

The 480 is distinct and different enough that it should have it's own sub forum. If the idea of this forum is to help people with the exchange of ideas and information, it would seem beneficial to make that exchange easier wherever possible. This one is a no brainer.

My opinion is a bit different:

+1 for the 480 Subforum

Except the 480 is not based on any of the original plastic frames.....
So yes it does deserve its own

I am still completely confused at this point why it does not have a sub forum of it's own. All the excuses seem to be invalid. Maybe if more 480 owners spoke up it would happen. I must assume that whoever is in charge of such things just has no interest.

I feel the same way about the 550 forum. There is no logical reason other than, I don't want to, to create the forum. A simple query and all the threads related to 480's or 550's could be moved. To me it sounds like Marine Corps logic from old crusty Sgt Majors; Son, we do it this way because this is how we've always done it! Well, just because it was always done that way doesn't mean it isn't stupid and there isn't a better way.

Technically speaking, there should be NOTHING under the main Mikado forum other than general conversations. All heli speak should be within individual forums. For example, the VTW rotor blades is a perfect topic to be in the main forum while individual heli talk should be in their own, or consolidated, sub-forums.

It's a pity that forum platforms are limited to a fixed hierarchical structure. If I were designing a forum platform I'd make it so users can create their own custom views by filtering on tags. For example, a view named My Helicopters could be created like so

My Helicopters = Logo480 AND Logo700 AND Oxy3

That would be an awesome way to do things! right now, I would just settle for the Mikado forum being like other forums, like blade etc, and having a single place to go for info on a single model.

It really should be like the goblin forums imo - split per frame. In the logo case that could be something like this:
  • 480
  • 500/550/600/690
  • 700
  • 700 xxtreme
  • 800 xxtreme

Older/other frames and general topics would just go in the main mikado logo forum. I really have a hard time seeing why this would be controversial.

that would be really cool..how would the people in charge know what we want? it would be great if they did that..they just started a 470 forum, why not split up this one ?

I agree with Togi and think that's a pretty logical breakout. The argument against really holds no water. Over in Compass they just stood up a new forum for the eXo. I don't think the fact that a 550 or 600 shares parts makes any sense to not have a separate forum. One could say that the 550 only uses a single battery and the 600 two, requiring a totally different configuration and electrical setup even though some of the parts may be the same. Hey, I've used the same screws from my Gaui X7 in my X5, should they be in one forum?

With that said, I think Togi's approach seems pretty logical.
