Talking New Trex Clone Build....my first.

Hey guys, just wanted to post some picks of my new build that I will be starting shortly. everyone on here has been so helpful to me over the past few months (I just started flying) and I want to give back some.

I just received my bird in the mail yesterday...and I will try to keep it a secret from my wife as long as possible!

It is a "flasher 3D" 450 kit. Everything from a Trex SE is a drop in fit from what I understand. The packing came very neat and orderly and all parts were individually pack in plastic for organization. Overall when I opened the box, I was very pleased. If it flys like a trex I will be extremely happy. Below are some pics.....

I am going to start my build today, and I will keep you updated to the quality of the kit. If anyone has any tips on assembling a trex 450 se, I will gladly listen to your recommendations. Thanks!!

Cool! I have never heard of the "Flasher". That looks a lot like the way my CopterX was packaged. You got a manual with yours, though. The canopy looks nicer than the CopterX. I see that it is the silver CF frame set, nice.

You are gonna have fun, and good luck keeping from the wife. I only managed that for about two days. When the brown truck shows up at your house everyday, and the mailman has your box stuffed, it gets hard to hide.

I would download the TREX manual, found in Finless' tech section, if I were you. Its probably much more detailed than the one you got. Check out my build thread on this forum, there may be some help for you there. What electronics are you going to use?

Good luck!

We should ask an admin to start an Align Trex 450 clone section.

I purchased the EXI 450 Kit and the HK 450 kits.

I am having problems with getting the rod lengths correct on the EXI 450, as per the Trex SA manual.

There just doesn't seem to be enough rod there to get them to the proper lengths specified.

I do not have the 10mm clearance Finless likes between the bottom of the swash and the frame.

I checked the HK rods, and they are shorter than specified in the SA version of the manual as well.

I put the body together today. Now on to the electronics....the teadist part.
I plan to put in tower servos, 401 gyro and futaba tail servo, and a 6100 recieved to go with my Dx6i. The kit came with motor and esc already..so time will tell how those work out. The kit components are of very high quality in my "new" opinion! Carbon fiber frame, boom, and tail fins. Tail and head are high quaility cnc parts with no slop. Came with carbon blades and fins (I dont think it was supposed to). The only complaint I have so far is the landing skids. These are absolute crap and cheap. Anyone have a good replacement suggestion?
Pic in above post.

Thanks

ed,

I just set up a friends EXI 450 yesterday and encountered this exact problem right off the bat. Luckily I had my spare 450SA head assembly in my field box so I just popped those rods off and used them on the EXI. Actually those rods were from my new CopterX 450SEv2 head, but they were the same lengths as the Align rods.

I don't know why the EXI rods would be so much shorter. There was no way you could get 10mm even with the links all the way out on the rods.

Sounds like it might be hit and miss with the correct length rods.

I picked this one up too, got it on Tuesday. For the price, it seems to be sound. Very similar to my EXI MA450.

Question

ok guys...setup question. Ive been racking my brain for 45 min now. I have the servos in and im just testing basic setup before i mount everything. When I raise the throttle, all three servos action in unison to raise the swash. When I go to the other stick and put in some roll or elevator all the servos are backwards. If i try the reverse function it screws up pitch. The servos are not binding against each other they are just backwards. If i pull back on the stick the swash tilts forward. If i bank right, the swash tilts left. I have ccpm mixing selected and I am using a dx6i. Little help??

Right.

Tig,

Quick and simple rule here:

If all three servos are operating properly just in the wrong direction, then you use the swash menu to go from + to - (or vice versa) and that will reverse the direction of all three servos.

If only two of the three servos are operating properly and in the correct direction, then you would go into the regular servo reversing menu and reverse the ONE servo that is not going in the right direction.
