Default What did you do with your Trex 470L today?

Figured I'd start up one of these threads for the 470L

Technically it was yesterday but it's still early in the morning so whatever :

Ordered some parts to fix her up!

Blades
Grips
Canopy
Links
Tail Shaft (spares)

I started building mine today! It's my first build and it's super fun. Got the LP basic, running BK servos and ikon2 flb and maybe I'll end up with the HW60 esc.

I could be tempted just for the canopy. That paint job looks really good compared to the before one.

It looks like it'll be easier to see in the air.

The stock canopy is too busy of paint scheme. At a distance or a gloomy day (we have a lot of those in Oregon) I have a hell of time seeing it sometimes even though I have 20:20 vision.

The new option green/white canopy is much easier to see. I just got one of those in to compare.

If you get the speed fuse you need to put the Microbeast under the main shaft to get it to fit. Mine is still at the back, I modified it to work but it's better below. Since I shortened my servo wires that's not an option for me. I may pick up a LP kit and build it up for this fuse.

I'm going to fly it today, will let you guys know how I like it.

I don't have any issues seeing the stock canopy but I did buy a white/green one to replace the one that was damaged in my crash.

Well.. I did it. I just ordered the 470L (LM) super combo from helidirect w the 2 pulse batteries and free shipping. Not sure why as I have the 450L and a stretched gaui x3 on 380mm. What can I say.. the 470L looks awesome and it is so cheap plus good parts support. I am super excited! I love this size.

$492, not bad. Lipos alone are about $103. Which would knock it down to $389.

So getting a really nice heli for $389. Minus $180 (price of new beastx) is like $209 for the heli.

If you bought the esc and servos new you'd be out around another $170. Which brings you down to $39.

The motor is $50..

So if you bought all the electronics separate with free shipping it's still like being paid $11 to get a free airframe. Just a rough estimate.

I dig it!

Edit: That $492 price also included a $10 swash leveler I added so really it is like getting paid $21 to get a free 470LM airframe.

Helped my friend get his 470 done today...would have flown it if I hadn't accidentally soldered the esc connector on backwards...

I did get one flight on the new fuse today...just before dark. Verdict...easier to see in the really low light (it was 4:30 when I flew) you can feel the extra weight, but it tracks better in backward flight. I didn't feel like it was any faster in forward flight.

MSH announced full telemetry using HobbyWing V4 and multiple radio systems including Futaba, so I'm considering buying a HW60 and Brain2....

Please double check it cause hw60a v4 might be the only hw v4 without full support I think that 60a is lacking full support

Finished my 470LM last night. It's my first build so I hope I got it all done correctly. Just waiting for the weather now.

Correct, 60 doesn't have current but does have other stuff.

Which batteries did you get with that package?

It really is a shame that Hobbywing didn't include current sensing in the 60Av4... seems like it's the only V4 that can't do it, and surely it must be one of their most popular units

Yeah. Unfortunately there just isn't hardware built in for it. Since the 60 is likely some new FETs and slight hardware and firmware changes compared to the 50... whereas the 80/120/130 were developed new from the beginning and not based off of anything so they developed them with the current shunt and sensing already part of it. With the 60 they would have had to switch to a new form factor and entirely new PCB and case rather than a few small changes.
