Default what new motor for my 500???

Greeting all,

motor finally went went out on me, had an align 500L, need a new one and am confused on what to get. Im fairley new to helis and don't need gobs of power, right now Im doing gentle flying, and a few loops and rolls. I would like to find something that would yield me good run times. Please let me hear what any of you would recomend for my situation.

Been seeing good things about the 500MX....has enough power... seems to have bearings that are holding up as well as anything else...
Options are the Scorpion 1600... and the Scorpion 1400..( there are quite a few more.. these are just the common ones..)
The 1400 is a bit of a power hog and maybe alittle more power then you need. The Scorpion 1600 is basically very close to the Align 500MX.
People have been looking at others as well.. I'm sure more options will come up in the posts.....

My bearings in my scorpion have lasted longer than my mx, maintenance goes a long way.

I used to have the 500MX and now have the Scorpion 3226-1600. Either one has enough power IMO. But the 500MX seemed to have some play in it and the Scorpion is also a little quieter.

I'm using this Turnigy motor on my Tarot 500ESP: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=18923

I'm only doing loops and rolls and am getting 5 minutes from a 2650 Turnigy Nano battery.

get the scorpion 1600

good all round peerfomance motor. Its not a power hog and you get decent flight times and lipos come down cooler than 1400

the advantage of scorpion motor over others is that bearings are very easy and simple to replace.

Align 500mx motor bearings harder to replace

you are coming from an align 500l motor so flight times will be reduced at leat a minute compared to the align 500mx and scorpion 1600 motor. Powerwise they will feel more powerful that align 500l motor by a decent margin

you will be happy with scorpion 1600 motor

there are two version of scorpion 1600 motor

3226 -1600. This is comparable to align 500mx in power

and

3026 -1600 motor. This motor is discontinued and slightly less powerful than the 3226 motor. You can however purchase the hyperion 3026 1600 motor which is still in stock and an exact copy of the scorpion motor. The only difference is the hyperion motor is blue and sliver in colour verses the black and gold of the scorpion motors

the hyperion 3026-1600 motor will give you the next best flight times over the 500L motor.

Generally speaking as a rule of thumb the more powerful a motor the less flight time you will get.

there is also the align 500m motor its similar to hyperion 3026 -1600 motor in terms of flight time but the hyperion motor will bog less.

align motors are not bad but people have isues with bearings and difficulty in replacing them compared to a scorpion motor

I'm glad to hear the Hyperion 1600 isn't a bad choice. Cuz...I just chose it this past weekend.

I also considered the new Scorpion and the Raptor motor that RC Bearings offers. Doesn't appear that many people have tried it out. But, the specs/reports I could find were pretty good.

Neu motors are REALLY nice. I have one in my 450 on 4S and it is really efficient, quiet, and powerful. But...the price is a deal breaker for me right now when shopping for 500 motors.

The Just Go Fly 560TH motor is probably the closest motor to the align 500l and only $60

This company builds decent and reliable motors

It is 1650kv and has 45 amps continuous power. It only weighs 146 grams while the align and hyperion motor are around 200 grams

Its designed for trex 500 and will definately give you longer flight times than the alin 500m and hyerion 3026 1600 motor

I would hope that a 500 motor rated at only 45 amps would give longer flight times, thats really weak compared to the 1600's 70amps or even the 1400's 80amp rating. I mean at what point do you sacrifice performance for flight time? nobody wants to be stuck in the air for 8min with only 45 amps of power on tap.

The Hyperion 1600 is a very reliable and very equilibrated in power/consumption/heat dissipation. Great choice

I'm flying the Scorpion 3026-1600 with a 14T pinion on a ICE 50 ESC and it delivers all the power a Rex 500 would ever want.....unless you're looking for mosquito on crack type flights.
