Default Gryphon Polaris BEC, is this a failure?

Is this a sign of imminent failure or no big deal? I noticed this black discoloration under the plastic case on my polaris bec. The unit is working fine. Do I still use it?

Mine doesn't have that, is the black on the plastic case, the chip, or some sort of tape. For some reason I think there might be a thin layer of double sided tape to help hold the board in place.
If so it has probably been hot at one point. I would make sure my wiring was clean no insulation missing and that my electronics especially servos were in good shape and not drawing too much power.
Also check the output voltage for stability.
If all checks out good then it is probably ok

It is not tape. It could be adhesive I suppose. It is inside the case. Under a magnifying glass it looks more like discoloration than burn marks.

No idea, everything works fine.

Hmm maybe from moisture or something , either way I would just stress test it and go from there.
I am sure there are better ways to do it but I used a servo tester and mounted some extra servos to a couple pieces of balsa and clamped them standing upright to the side of my bench.
Put a fairly long arm on them and hung some lead weights from the longest part of the arm and run the servo tester to the 3 Servos and a voltmeter. Hooked this to the bec took a no load voltage reading then started the tester on auto ran for 30 mins checking voltage and temp of the bec frequently. Turned out that the servos got hot and had to be swapped mid test after the 30 mins I then turned the tester to manual and worked the knob fast and hard (no pun intended) for a few more minutes . After surviving this test staying relatively cool and holding voltage well I decided the bec on my yep 45's bec was safe for use.

Mine doesn't look like that either...

I would bench test also and be done with it.
