Spektrum H3060 or Align tail servo any good for oxy 3?
Hi Guys, I'm trying to do a budget build before IRCHA gets here. I have everything except a tail servo for my OXY3. I have a bunch of h3050, So I was thinking why not go with the h3060 on the tail. I'll be using a vbar neo non vlink with a vsat. I was also thinking that maybe align had a good tail servo for under $30. If you know of one that works well on the OXY3, and will work well with the neo, please let me know. So whats everyones thoughts on the h3060 on the OXY3? thanks.

It'll work ok since you've got all those H3050's to use. I run KST215's all around on both my Oxy 3's.

I use the 3060 on both my Oxy 2 and they are pretty reliable for it, but honestly would not trust on the Oxy 3. If I remove the rod from one of them it will sit there and twitch like it is hunting and it was brand new when installed. Lowest I would go would be a KST 215. I use the MKS 93i on both of my Oxy 3 after I had a KST fail in flight. The tail is not a good place to budget out, IMO, and the 3060 has low torque numbers.
The 3050s are marginal. They would work temporarily for me but that is it. I had them on my 230s and they worked ok there, but when I changed to the KST 215 it was a very noticeable improvement. I think the speed is about the same but the KST is much more precise. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk |

If you did a poll, I think you would find a large number of guys using the KST 215s all around on the Oxy 3. (Or the TGY equivalent.) I'm sure there are a few guys using the 3050/3060 combination, but not many. Some folks - like Ben - do put a dedicated tail servo on it, but I would have to be a much better pilot to begin to notice any difference.

A lot of it depends on how you fly and whether you are looking for the best option possible or a "quick and dirty" option to get you in the air.
I can only do sports and easy aerobatics (no hard 3D) and I have 3060s on my 300CFX and Mini-Protos tails - they work perfectly fine for me. Prior to the 3060 I had an Align DS420 on the 300CFX - worked really well until it burnt out . My OXY3s both use a KST215 / TGY306 on the tail and don't have any tail issues. Ultimately a dedicated high-end tail servo will work better, but there are plenty of cheaper options that work well if you don't push too hard. |

I had more than a 100 flights initially on a H3060 on tail, worked pretty well with decent performance. It was from a 360 CFX I had and survived several crashes, and unlike cyclic servos, tail servos were rarely damaged or stripped in crashes I had.
