I completely agree. :Lets keep in mind - none of the company can allow themselves to offer a service without generating revenue. At the end if they do not make money they will go away and that would actually cause complete loss of data.
Also I can only warn users to seriously either read the terms and conditions or keep your data offline local instead of blind trust to any of the hosting companies out there. There warnings about those companies and the risk is easy ignored. The warnings have been out there since those companies offered their so named free services. It is common practice and no need for us to complain later for what we easily ignored years ago. There have been enough examples in the past. I keep it the old fashion way -> yes I do have data at services such as Dropbox, google drive, apple, Microsoft ... But the most important one -> I do not link my data there and I would always keep 2 backups on independent hard drives local. Not doing that and blind trust in 'free' service is foolish and at the end could even end in loss of data. Just because your service provider has not disappointed you yet does not give you any guaranties.

I am sure I have copies of all of the pics online, but downloading just in case. Wow, what a sucky process.

I just downloaded my pictures (didn't have much as I only used it for forum posts) and deleted my account. I completely understand the charging but my major beef (and this has been brought forward previous) is that they want to charge an enormous fee for a service they are not good at. The site is constantly slow, uploads often don't work smoothly, the editing function is often a joke and the ads, miles and miles of it. It's not even tastefully done. Also, for those that have been w/ photobucket for a while will know that they have a tendency to break links because of changing paths which was annoying. For free, most people, including me, can deal with it. For hundreds a year? No thanks.

I got the "we want to hose you " email and sure enough, 399.99 recurring yearly charge. I think I said more than bit me, but something to that effect. I think they may be the same people who send out the king Jordan emails asking you to hold $1 million dollars.

I actually deleted all but a few recent linked Photobucket images a week before the rule change because the lack of a search function for my thousands of images. Fed up with ten years of flipping through every page to find an image.
I only knew of the new rules from browsing the epic Airwolf turbine thread. All email from photobucket has always gone automatically to the trash. So, out of curiosity, i wonder what happens when i link one of my remaining images...can anyone see the melted endnell?

I downloaded my entire album and each photo had a really long nonsequential name and they are in a random order. Now I need to go through and rename and reorganize them....
SNAP!!!!!

The app made renaming and organizing a much easier task. I'm not affiliated with the TC folks, just thought it was a good solution for you. GL! |

Someone should script up a program to move images to another service and replace links in posts if still able to edit them.

I'm pretty computer illiterate and don't really understand how the whole uploading/storing images thing really works, but when I want to post pics, I log into tapatalk and just paste pics into my post. Works fine. Not sure where they are actually being stored. Assuming helifreak?

If you post them here using your browser, they're stored on HF servers. As for changing links in old posts, any of the staff can help with that, but I'll see if old threads can be edit enabled temporarily for those who might want to tackle that themselves. |
