Default Inline Gimbal?

Guys,

I wonder if you can help, I have a friend who has quad with a GoPro fixed to it (sorry I have no details on what it is) he says he wants to stabilize the video so I suggested adding a gimbal but he doesn't want it to hang under the quad. What he is after is an inline 2 axis gimbal to fit on the front of the quad much like the TBS disco. I can't seem to find anything out there which he could use, any suggestions? Can you just modify and retrofit one that hangs under the quad to fit inline instead? His budget isn't huge.

Thanks.

With a lot of those 2 axis gimbals you can remove the top part (from which the gimbal hangs) and then attach the gimbal to a vertical plate on your copter by the back of the roll motor.

This is the best inline 2 axis gimbal I've ever owned, it uses silicone gel dampers which is absolutely the best kind of dampener your going to get this size. I wish my Disco Pro had its dampening system. However If you don't have an AD1 you have to do a bit of retrofitting to get it to fit what you have along with an Alexmos controller.

It may look a bit unrefined, but it actually performs better than the Disco Pro one.

Here's the other way like Xpantz was talking about which I've tried with some 3D printed mounts, but didn't like how it looked and ditched the idea.

However the Tarot gimbal is hard to beat for the price as it works beautifully when everything is setup correctly.

Tarot Gimbal @TBS Discovery (4 min 38 sec)

Works better on something like a Disco or a FLIP Pro G.

That is interesting to me because although differing in the exact way of going about it, the support for the gimbal uses the rear gel balls behind a pivot very much the way Aimdroix does theirs. Nice to hear this system can work so well and I hope the Aimdroix one does too.

This is the technology behind this type damper, but of course their video makes it look better than it actually is.

Thanks for the input guys much appreciated. The Tarot gimbal looks good for the money, I'll let him know.
