Default Mostro Nitro Belt and Pulley Type

Hello all from a very late Mostro nitro owner

I'm thinking about fitting a 4-stroke engine (OS FT-160) into the Mostro nitro airframe.

This will require a new main gear ratio and to achieve this I'm thinking of a larger tooth count engine pulley and longer belt.

I know the belt is made by Gates - the information printed on it is:

GATES PGGT 3MR255-09 0652SS as well as 072053843101

I have sent an email to Gates but have not had a reply yet, so don't really expect one now.

Can someone please confirm the belt is actually a PowerGrip GT2?

Would I be right that the pulley would therefore be PowerGrip GT2 sprocket?

One final question for now. What came first - the Avant Mostro or the SAB Goblin? They have a very similar driveline.

Thanks.

SAB goblin came first, Avant mostro is a very very poor attempt to copy the goblin. Mostro is a piece of junk. I would quit while your ahead and get a Goblin

Gears/Belts

HTD proceeded GT2 which has now been superseded by GT3. From my understanding, the big differences is in the belts, not the pulleys. An HDT pulley can be used with a GT2 or GT3 belt.

Misumi has a selection of pulleys.

I would be cautious in investing time or money in a heli where spare parts are rare or may not exist.

Hi Flat Eric. What makes you say the Mostro is a piece of junk?

Thanks Tom. Good info as always.

Little harsh. The Mostros are not bad. Since the company is mostly toast, I think it's a great platform to kit bash with. Not much to lose.

Well Avant got a goblin manual and tried to make its own version, fact.

I had a new nitro kit and it was an absolute joke, none of the parts fitted, shafts slack in
bearings etc. I sent a box of bits back to Augusto in NV, the replacements were worse, go figure.

Eventually got it together, hovered for about 5 minutes, more vibes than Ann summers products.

Stripped it and sold it, sold my Aurora as well. RIP Avant

And it wasn't just my model, endless horror stories of them.

I Was reading this on the mostro, and that flat eric guy. What an a-hole this guy is. Taking a lot of smack where smack is not needed. He acts like he is in highschool. Lmao or maybe he is older and his old lady hates him. Lol. So he turns his anger towards others on helifreak.
Check it flat tire Eric, a.k.a stick in the spokes. Go fly your stupid boblin and leave the avant threads to the avant guys.

@BUM please explain how me giving my honest opinion of a helicopter is trolling?

The guy that thinks you can get spares for an Avant helicopter must be high in my opinion.

Maybe because we're all getting our spare parts form carbonxtreme as it has been posted several times here by several people. Why don't you go to your goblin forum and let us avant owners alone and happy as we are without your unnecessary and ignorant (obviously) trolling? Same goes for a few more trolls that lurk around in this forum.

We all know the situation with Avant. Nasty comments are not necessary. CarbonXTreme is NOT part of Avant and has some inventory of parts. How long it lasts? Who knows. But we are not much worse off than some of the other "name brands" that are now swirling the toilet bowl. Part of the hobby is finding ways to make things work. So that is where we are with Avant. Go enjoy your Goblin and the SAB forum.

You made your comment and now you keep harping on it. If you had made the comment and then dropped out of the thread, we wouldn't be having the trolling conversation.

FWIW I ordered some parts from Carbon Xtreme, it took a while but I did get them.

My nitro Mostro flies fantastic.

I own goblins. I don't see anything that was a direct copy. It's extremely different.

I'll keep mine flying as long as I can, then it will be replaced by a Synergy, not a Goblin.IMHO I'm glad I stayed away from the Black Nitro.

Im not a hater, in fact I was an Avant fanboy for quite some time, but the airframes had problems, period.

Augusto shipped me no less than 12 (yes, you read that right - twelve) heads in order to get one that worked. 5 complete heads with grips and 7 head yokes alone.

He sent me 12 heads, 4 main shafts, 3 OWB, 3 tail sections and some other various parts just to get my air frame flying.

I have never, ever, ever had an airframe have so many issues as the mostro did. But, I eventually got it flying and I loved every second of it.

Point being, let's not act like every horror story here comes from a hater.
