Default Reciever issue

Hi Gents,

I have two RG731BX recievers with a sat for telemetry and extra reception.

The other day, one of my heli's (X5) did something strange while waiting for a spool up in the grass.

I went and read the Vbar log and it gave me a sat framing error. I figured this was because of the long wet grass it sat on and my antenna's being on the skids. A eventless flight followed.

On flight tree of the day, the heli went into fail safe only to regain control and headspeed a couple of feet from the ground, landed the heli shaking like mad but in one piece.

Again, the log gave me sat framing errors. Just to be sure I order a new X-bus reciever from JR of America's, thank God they exist and stock some JR electronics....

So just now I did some trouble shooting and found that the LED on the sat would dim a little when wiggeling the sat wire, BINGO!

That being sad, and the weather forcast for tomorrow I decided to fly the heli without the sat until my new RX arrives.

Now the funny part starts, the Vbar will not init without the sat being connected to the RX. I do get two solid green LED's on the Rx but the Vbar is just dead. Reconnect the sat and init no problem. Let it init with the sat and then remove the sat no problem.... This got me stumped.

Tried rebinding, no avail.

Took my X3 out and powered that up without the sat, init just fine...

What is wrong woth my X5's RX, and what could I have done to cause or fix this...

To me it seems my RX failed...

Any suggestions/thoughts are welcome.

Regards,

Menno

I don't believe the 731 can be used without the sat. It has a 3 year warrenty on it send it to JR Americas and have them check it out.

Hi LaDon,

Thank you for getting back to me. My other RG731BX connects fine without the sat.

To be honest, I do think the reciever is older then three years or close and I have not bought it from you guy's but from a Dutch shop that isn't in bussiness anymore.

I am happy to sent it in, but I am not sure if its fair?

Regards,

Menno

The sat wire is probably the problem. I am having problems with the original receiver's sat wires. Unplug and clean everything with can air or contact cleaner (plastic friendly). Or get a new cable.

The early receivers would not bind without the sat but will later connect to the transmitter without the sat. I would have thought that the VBar would only see the channels out of the XBus ? What does sat framing error mean when you are using a receiver ? Does this mean that the VBar expected new data and got none - we are calling the receiver a sat ?

Could it be the XBus cable from receiver to VBar ?

Three years is not bad for a receiver. I hope you got a new model with no sats.

I to thought it would be the sat wire, that is why I disconnected in the first place.

The thing is that after the reciever is bound, the RX without the sat will not provide the Vbar with any Xbus data cause it will not init properly.

I did got a new RX without the sat, these things are fragile.

Satellites are a contamination from the Spektrum days. They finally shed all of the Spektrum stench. The new receivers are great - and follow the two micro-coax antenna standard. The Spektrum deal is the worst thing JR ever did - bankruptcy.

The new DMSS is very solid. I rank JR and Futaba as the two best RF links. The programming is old school and talking telemetry has not made it down the chain. A h/w update like VSpeak combined with a new s/w update would not be a big deal but won't happen now. JR has always had the best stick - 28X and XG14. Unfortunately they are toast like K&S, Hatori, Webra, HP, Kalt, Graupner, Mulitplex, etc.

Why would the Vspeak not work or happening? I am missing something here. Also why are they toast when JR Americas just got in another shipment of receivers and in a week or two are receiving a shipment of several 28x and other radios.

I do agree on the RF links. You will never hear me knock futaba on that either

You can get the VSpeak installed now. I don't want to program voice by pushing a button like a gyro. I want to program it from the screen. Surely there is a single spare output pin on the TX processor.

Some more 812 receivers came in. I would still recommend the XG14 if you buy enough receivers with it.

Personally myself to be quite honest about it I don't even want my radio talking to me. Just not something I need

You just made it sound like you weren't even able to get that so I was just wondering

As far as receivers go they have the 613bx, 812bx, and the 812pbx receivers on hand. As far as the 712bx goes I think it is going by the wayside from what I understand as they don't make a 7 channel radio

Can't wait to get my new reciever in and do some range testing. The other day I lost my X3 due to a shutdown, but could also be a radio issue.

Word is the X3 went in the water so I can't check to make sure it didn't had something to do with me radio.

Only operational heli left is my Forza700 but I am a bit anxious to fly that one as there might just be something wrong with my Tx.

USPS suck though, package appears to be in Chicago for over 10 days now....

Once it left Chicago there will be no tracking until it hits what ever postal tracking you have over there I think

Thanks, you are correct. It now says it's in The Netherlands (24-6)...

I will contact the European distributor to get my faulty RX looked at, this seems more fair then getting it over to you guys...
