Default Why the "Roman Letter O with Circumflex"?

This one is for the nerds...

As I observed elsewhere in the forum (see: here...) Protos is a Greek word (πρωτος) meaning "first".

However, the products are designated: Prôtos with the Roman Letter O with Circumflex character replacing the first "o" (or Greek ω).

The circumflex character isn't (See [Edit:] below) part of the Greek (or Latin / Italian alphabet).

Can anyone enlighten (me at least) as to why the ô is there? NOT complaining, just interested.

TIA,
Paolo

[Edit: While it isn't in Modern Greek it is in Ancient Greek]

Just a guess, but maybe because MSH is Italian they decided to give an Italian twist to the Greek word?

Or, they may have decided that it just looked better that way.

Ha! Fair enough. Grown men playing with toy helicopters. Nerd goes without saying

Maybe it's not a circumflex. Perhaps it's just a little hat for the 'O'.

I thought it was a pronunciation thing, but I got a C or B- in college English.

I always wondered the same as well, but never asked!

It was a pain when I was cutting out a stencil for airbrushing the Protos logo, I had to make my own character for this from other letters. I've no idea how to get the 'O with the hat' in a standard font on a PC?

All accents and symbols from other languages can be typed with a regular keyboard. You just need to know the keys to push.

For next time.

Only in Office apps, apparently. It doesn't work in text boxes in IE 11.

By Office apps you mean Word and such? I use them on emails and Facebook, etc.

It's not system-wide, as is the case with most convenience functions in Windows. I tried Notepad too and it didn't work there. I did get it to work in Word, Outlook, and Wordpad.

I'm french and we use the ^ accent. to be = être
Though we don't use it on o specifically, maybe the Italians do ?
Oh and on an azerty keyboard (standard french keyboard, dunno about italians) you can basically type any vowel with ^ + vowel.
âêîôû

Yes, âêîôû is the intended name for the Prôtos V3, so there are more people scratching their heads.
By the way, what does MSH stand for, Microsoft Helis perhaps?

M and S are the initials of Davide's and Corrado's last names. H stands for Helicopters.
