DX9 Exporting and Importing Models on SD Card
My flying buddy has a DX9 running firmware code 1.10 and I got three models from him and was going to import them to my DX9 running firmware code 1.11.
When I import any of them, they will attempt to import, but take the name of one of my existing models in the memory of my radio and place the new model at the tail end of the others, but it's not the model that I was trying to import. It appears to be one of my model which is already in the memory of the radio and not the one I’m trying to import weird. Has anyone seen this? So I thought it might the a firmware code issue, so I rolls my TX to 1.10 code, but same issue so I put it back to code 1.11. So when I went to import one model with my DX9 the display showed the memory was all jumbled and could not read from the DX9, so I got a SD card reader and place it on my PC and it was readable so I backed up the files in a folder on the PC and formatted the SD card and copied all the model back to the card, now I can view all the files from my DX9, but still cannot import models to the DX9. After formatting the SD card and trying two different card I copied all the models back to both and now get the attached errors while attempting to import my friend’s models to my DX9. On the PC I can double click on all files and view the content, except one which was created while using firmware 1.11 all it displays once opened is y.y.y.y.y....etc. All the other files were created using earlier firmware revisions. Has Spektrum from firmware 1.11 started using encryption on files? Can you copy to/from one DX9 to another DX9 with different or same firmware? Can you copy to/from a DX18 to another DX9 with different or same version firmware? Are there a Gen1 and Gen 2 DX9 that the public is not aware of? There's nothing in the release notes for 1.11 that says anything changed with the SPM file format. The SPM files should be readable text files in an XML format.
When you re-format the SD card, are you using FAT32 format? The Spektrum transmitters are designed to support Class 4 or Class 6 SD cards up to 32 GB. Silly as it sounds, you could have a problem with a bigger and/or faster card. And usually the card that comes with the DX9 is horribly cheap, slow, and unreliable. All "Gen 2" transmitters (DX6 G2, DX7 G3, DX8 G2, DX9, DX18 G1 and G2, DX20) should be able to exchange model files with no problem. And to this point, firmware versions have not been an issue unless you try to use a feature that's not supported in an earlier version of course. There are not "G1" or "G2" variations of the DX9. There's only one DX9 so far, although it has had different colors (silver or black). The DX9 started out with what's commonly called "G2" Airware firmware running on it. I'm also in the habit of only inserting or removing the SD card when the transmitter is powered off. I don't know if bad things happen if you insert the card while the transmitter is on, or if you try to remove the card while the transmitter is still on. Just another thought that might help. |

Thanks for responding
Does is matter if you use a Micro class 6 32gig SD card using an adapter or does it have to be a standard size card? If my memory (no pun intended) serves me right, looks like FAT16 can only handles up to 8gig media in size. So am I correct in thinking, It needs to format it FAT32? So I did a little reading: https://www.pctechguide.com/hard-dis...ntfs-explained |

A micro card in a adapter is OK. I've used that before.
I think the transmitter understands all flavors of FAT. NTFS won't work, nor will the standard Apple or Linux filesystem formats. |

I'm having a similar problem on my DX8G2 where I can only export models 1 at a time instead of "Export All". The problem exists with several different SD cards and was not a problem before I imported my Nano CPs file from a previous backup.
The Nano wont export at all, even after changes and trying to export just that single model. I have also had an issue with exporting actually changing settings to the settings on the SD file rather than overwriting it...... I'm pretty technically savvy so I dont think I am doing the process wrong, and at the same time my savvy-ness makes me hesitant to update the TX firmware as I dont want to loose everything in case the update fails since I am not getting good exports....

I'm glad to hear others are having issues, I first thought it was only me. I too cannot export all models at one time. I've had this DX9 since it just came out and have been through all the revision and have models that have been create at various firmware intervals.
Could this be the issue and all the model need to be deleted and recreated? We sure would like to hear from Spektrum's technical support dept. or service dept on this. I would hate to send in a radio in for service only to find nothings wrongs with it and it's the model files. Is there a way to manually format the internal memory on the radio? My flying buddy has a black edition of the DX9 running firmware 1.10 and I have the older version (Shiny) and I cannot import his models to my radio running 1.11 firmware. as stated in previous post. I changed my DX9 to firmware version 1.10 and still cannot import his model files. Whats up with that?? |

No problems on my "shiny" DX9(SPM9900). I imported models over from my DX6(SPMR6750) with no troubles when I upgraded. I can also export all models as I tried this on a spare SD card. The DX9 is running 1.11 and the DX6 is running 1.05. I also tried each ones SD card in the other and they read fine.

And I've never used anything besides the stock SD card that came with the DX9... And have not had any issues at all Doesn't seem to matter if radio's are on or off or if the SD card is inserted before or after...just the flip from upright for the DX9 to inverted for the DX6 to insert the card |

VTX relates to a new function implemented with latest Airware. You can exchange SPM files to/from any Airware radios. When importing a SPM into your radio, it runs a routine to validate compatibility of all variables; if something isn't recognized then the process halts. That's expected! Your best chance is to make sure that both radios are updated to their latest Airware versions. Carlos |
