Default Gazaur tail grips/ CNC?

Thank God my Gaz was on ground when tail blew out!
Tail grips sheared at linkage? Maybe too many crashes! LOL!
Anyhow was wondering about cnc grips for tail?
Anyone have or used other brands?
If not is there any interest in some?
A friend is a machinist and we have been speaking about making some Heli parts.
Needs to have a decent call for parts to make it worthwhile, so let me know what you guys think.

Thanks

Rick

Hey Rick.

There are currently no aluminium upgrades for the tail nor has anyone to the best of my knowledge swapped the originals for another type of grip. And yeah, if you're dragging your tail around or slamming it into the ground too much, the thing will break. That's just how it is. I prefer the grips breaking to the little links though, because I never have enough of those in my spares.

Now I have been working on some CAD models for the Gazaurs in solidworks and Autocad, things like a new head, mixing arms, eccpm base, hollowed pitch rods and boom clamps etc. I have also been designing a new all CF tail with CNC blade grips. I think I had posted a pic of that somewhere around here. I have no problem finishing them up and sending you the files to be machined. I will post up pics of what I have so far, people can comment on what they like etc, and perhaps we can have a batch machined and shipped out.

I had been in contact with another freak to have things machined, but between a busy life, moving countries and having my hdd implode I didn't follow up on it.

Welcome back!

are you settled in yet? Bad enough changing towns let alone countries! I saw your rotor head but not tail. I'm always looking for something to keep me busy and a buddy of mine as well.
He's not into heli's but like's keeping busy as well.

Been through alot of main grips, haven't changed to cnc yet, still pretty new to flying and figured less damage to other parts. Been much better with landing and flying w/out too many "rough" landings lately. I am probably better at building and repairing then flying,LOL!

Building a Mars now and it will have CNC main grips so before I finished was wondering about the others. Look forward to you back on the forum along with Apollo 7, And a few others,You guys are great for all kinds of input and advice. Part of the reason i got my first Gazaur and now 2, is because of the support you guys give. Would love to contribute to the family anyway I can. Anything to keep these wonderful machines in the air and possibly encourage Gazaur to move forward into larger size

Hey guys,

Yes, it's still in progress, though I must admit I've been too busy to work on it recently. Here's a picture of the grip so far. It's pretty much the same as the original but with he addition of chinese weights and radiuses.

I was thinking about making them look like miniature versions of the main blade grips, so I've been drafting that as well. I like the feel of it more than this one.

The 2D of the tail gearbox is finished as well. I'll put it together in 3D so you can take a look at it.

Let me know what you think.

Ok, here's what the new tail gearbox will look like, with the original gearing and shafts. I'm not too good when it comes to rendering objects, so you'll have to put up with the unrealistic look.

There is interference between the mounting blocks and the CF. I just need to enlarge that cut out around them and it will be fine.

Let me know what you think,

Thanks crickr1. I need to take care of some little issues with the interferences and then make sure that the upgrade is still compatible with some of the original parts. Things like the tail rotor hub and slider. I don't particularly feel like redesigning those little bits, and it would save money if you could reuse some of the original parts.
Then I've got to look it over with a machinist to see if the design is actually producible and to set the tolerances, and finally I'll make a few and test them out. I've not flown in a while so I am kind of rusty, I'll have to send one to someone who can really put it through some abuse.

By midweek the design should be complete, so stay tuned till then.

what are the small interferences? Or are you assuming because of tight tolerances?

The interference is when the volumes of separate parts overlap in 3d space. The interference In the model is between the CF plates and the boom mounts. The outer circumference of the mounts is overlapping the edge of the cut out in the plate. It's not bad, I think something like .11mm^3 or something like that. I can slightly increase the size of the cut out and slightly decrease the radius of the mount to solve it.

Gotcha, If the cutout is larger that should solve the overlap but how much is too much in weakening the cfplate??Or do you just enlarge the plate and remove accordingly ?
That could be why the mini titan325v2 has a complete cnc boom mount which also incorporates the tail slider mount and the cf attaches to the mount.

Yeah, I think its time to get this thread moving again! Get some more Gaz hype going!

Getting ready to build another "Mars" It'll be on the forums soon, maybe I'll start a build thread for it.

Would love some nice bling on my "Ying,&Yang!"

how did you ever fair on your design? also i hope your planning on using thicker cf cuz the gazaur cf is just to thin and weak. have you done any of the aluminum parts mainly the cyclic servo mounts and boom mounts, the stock aluminum is to brittle.
