This started off as a tech tip for the bell cranks. During recording, my tripod broke. After that, I could not get the angle I wanted for the video. I haven't forgotten the request. I will be getting a new tripod and get the bell crank tech tip video done as soon as possible.

Has anybody tried the old Paper in the gear trick? How do you feel about it?

I just tried it tonight, took a 1/2" wide strip of plain white copy paper, fed it into the mesh, pushed the motor up tight and tightened all the screws while holding pressure on the motor.

It doesn't make the mesh feel over tight when the paper is in the mesh, but when it is removed, the mesh feels smooth and quiet. When I hold the motor solid, I can feel a VERY TINY tick in the mesh backlash, almost too small of a movement to see. It is that way, even and smooth all the way around the gear.

Now!, is this too loose? Is it not a good practice to follow? Give me some input here guys.

That's great, Bryan. I've used the paper mesh method on straight gears with success, but I always seem to go back to the method I used in the video. I think either way is fine. My only concern with the paper method is this: With slant gears, you need a paper thickness that will be pliable enough to bend enough to mold itself to the slant. Plain copy paper from one manufacturer may vary in thickness when compared to plain copy paper from another manufacturer. That means gear mesh may vary. In the end it's whatever you're most comfortable doing.

I Find that the regular printer paper to be too bulky and ridged and does not allow it to flow into the mesh well. I go by feel now but, I think the plastic bags the parts come in to be a better tool for mesh. I feel It is very flexible in corners being that its self lubricating which allows it to flow between the teeth better.

I wouldn't have thought to use the plastic packing bag, though.

Scott your tips on how to put those big links on gave me an idea. I took an old pair of ball link pliers and ground off the tit. It works great for snapping on those big boys.

Yep, that works, too. Also, you can grind a deeper slot on one side of the pliers. I just didn't have a spare set of pliers to modify.

Anyone from the team got some nice en clean wiring options for me? i see a lot of holes for tiestraps, but i'm i little bit lost in the wiring (to keep it clean) :-)

most of the team guys run the wiring inside the frames. "I" personally run the elevator, and tail servo wires down and inside the the left frame right under the 2nd mainshaft bearing and up to the gyro plate. i think scott may have pics of his somewhere or in his videos. i know Backburner1955 and I wired our models the same. look threw some of his post and he has some pics i think of how he wired his model. i'm kinda anal about wiring and spend more time hiding my wires then i do building the kit. im not a fan of wires on the outside of the frame if i can help it. BUT it does become a pain when rebuilding from a crash sometimes.
