Default 3way on/off switch on 2435 rx

Lost yet another servo recently. I've got a bunch of EXI digital servos, I don't really use the 3-way gyro - so I figured I'd just use the EXI and be done with it.

Since those servos run backwards I figured I might as well disable the 3 way totally so I flipped the bal switch to off (and turned both the pots down to zero).
She appeared to fly fine at first, but I had to slowly keep adding more left aileron. When I was almost out of left stick I landed and the swash was tilted way to the right. After I unplugged everything and then went through binding the swash leveled out again. But next flight was the same, slowly needed more left stick until I finally ran out of stick.
Nothing loose or slipping - the servo appears to just be slowly drifting to the right. And it resets when I rebind the heli. Replaced the servo and no change, still slowly drifts right.

I went through a mental list of "what's changed?" and eventually came down to the bal switch is in off. I switched it back to on, left the pots at zero and tested. I got through almost an entire pack with no servo drift then my brass pinion decided it was time to strip out - so I'm at a standstill until a new pinion comes in. Yes - it was one of those kinda days.

Has anyone tried turning the balance switch off - or does anyone feel like trying it for a flight or two? I'd like to get in one or two more flights before I call it confirmed, but it sure looks like flipping that switch does strange things.
