Soldering the programming stick- what is the polarity?
***EDIT-THIS FIRST POST IS INCORRECT - SEE POST #9 FOR CORRECT SPOT TO SOLDER THE TOOLSTICK TO ON THE ESC***
Before I blow up another ESC, I want to make sure I'm getting this right. I can see the negative, positive, and signal wire on the ESC itself, but what is the polarity on the Programming stick? See the picture attached. What is the red, yellow and black wire on the programming stick? Last edited by legobrains; 12-02-2016 at 10:42 PM.. |

Black -ve Red +ve and yellow/white signal wire. Works for me
But I leave the servo type plug on and solder the mating servo plug to the esc and leave it there for future updates. Much lighter than the 3 pin plugs. For the motor I solder it direct to the esc as well for better connection and again less weight (so take the female 3 pin plug off as well) Also the fets can be replaced with a little solder skill and then the esc works fine again. I have also burnt out a esc in the past with wrong polarity while trying to flash

Flipped around the connectors, and added a power wire for a 1 cell battery.
The top plug with three strands of wire is for programming the XP12A. I just solder those wires on to the appropriate spots of the XP12A to update. Everything look good now? |

This is what I'm basing it off of. |

A program card is a totally different animal then a tool stick.

I thought they were the same. I'm confused then still on how I should wire it up.
Can I just plug the tool stick directly in and I don't need the 1 cell battery? |

Oh man, I'm embarrassed. I was so fixated on the programming instructions that I forgot I needed to solder the tool stick to the three spots in the middle of the ESC. See attached picture where the 3 circles are.
I'm going to edit my first few posts with a warning that it is not correct, so someone doesn't mistakenly use my first few posts. Thank you for your help. |
