Default What tail boom do I use ??

Hello, It does not look look this forum gets a lot of action, but I will ask anyway. I want to stretch my McpxBL and I do not want to buy a lynx / microheli frame and go down that road. A while ago I thought I read that you could put the 120SR tail boom on the McpxBL doe's this work?? I still want to use my stock tail motor. What tail boom can I use to stretch the McpxBL and still use the stock frame?? Thanks

Hello, I found these tail booms that are155mm,20mm longer than the stock booms. Part # (BLH3602L) But there is a problem, Im going to have to change the frame. The CF boom is a little small for the stock plastic frame. What I'm doing is going with the MICROHELI frame and using the long tail boom from the mCPX/2, This will give me a longer boom with a much nicer frame IE: these tail booms are the same booms that I am using on my Ncpx stretch

I use a 120s tail boom on a mcpx v2 with a bl conversion if that helps any. Might be easier to buy solid cf rod and make the length you want. Maybe with the lynx tail motor mount. That way you can try several lengths until you get the one that works best for you.

I bought a stick of solid CF rod and cut my own to the length I wanted and then filed the flat spots. Be sure to use breathing protection when cutting/filing.

HI, That's a very good idea to make my own length. I can keep playing with it until I get it right. Thanks for the tip.

Your welcome. I'd start at stock 125mm with 2mm cf rod. Then work up to 150mm but some have gone even further 152-153mm I like 135mm. What tail motor you use will also have a huge effect also how you hold the wires to the boom. Some use heat shrink the whole length and say it's solid but I found that too heavy and prefer to use a few small pieces along the boom instead. I also ha success just winding the tail motor wires around the boom then up around the canopy pin with a lot of success. On my nano I even went back to using hollow cf booms which I still make myself

I made my own tail motor wires from an old IDE hard drive ribbon cable. Peeled off three wires from the ribbon and soldered the old magnet wire plugs to it, never had another issue with the tail again. This, the solid CF tail boom and the boom supports from Astroid Designs made for a very good tail. Besides the Rakon swash the rest of my BL is stock.

What motor and mount did you use though? How did you secure the wires on the boom?

Stock tail motor and mount, used small strips of heat shrink tubing to secure the wire to the boom.

Yes I managed to remove the stock mount from a cf boom once and used it really helps to keep the weight down

Default I'm all done!!

So, my $10 up grade turned in to $175, I tried to use the boom from the Mcpx V2 but that boom is 2mm and it it is two small for the stock Mcpx Bl frame . The stock frame has a 2.5mm tail holder and the 120SR boom is 3mm. So I got the MICROHELI frame witch has a 2.5mm tail holder and a option for a 3mm tail holder. I went to my local hobby store and bought 2.5mm solid CF rod and made the tail booms @ 155mm. I also bought the MICROHELI tail motor holder and it works great for the 8mm stock tail motor. With a few more upgrades like landing gear / swash / main blade grips / 125mm main blades etc. I have a Mcpx Bl that flys like a big heli. It is so stable that I can hover it with no hands !! Here are a few picks of the finished heli.
