I have the original (still flybarred) E4 and an E4SE, both on 3s with the Scorpion 2221-8 motor and a 13 tooth pinion.

On the SE I tried a bigger pinion and 3s power setup couldn't really cope (although at the time I had a smaller Align ESC and now I have a JR 50 amp). And going 12 tooth just wasn't enough headspeed for the available pitch range.

I'm still flybarred on my E4 as well. After playing around with the pinions the 13 tooth works best for me too. 2221-8, and the 45 amp Scorpion commander ESC on a 3S setup

Yep, Scorpion commander ESC here as well, Hitec servos on the swash and a Futaba on the tail and Spartan gyro. This seems to have been some kind of standard over here as I have seen a few others with the exact same electrics. The only thing I changed were the paddles and a more hi-viz canopy.

Default flybarred E4

Now that I have begun flying the E4SE I'm wondering what to do with my original flybarred E4. I had left it at my other flat but I brought it up to London today and will maybe take it out this weekend and fly it again and see how it goes.

I still remember when I first got it how stable I thought it was compared to the Trex I had been flying. But that was ages ago now and everything else I have is FBL (except for some older nitro helis).

I suppose if I decide to retire it a fair amount of it can be used as spares for the SE.

Fly your E4. I flew mine yesterday. Still flies great for a flybarred heli. I bought mine in 2008. It has had several main shafts, tail booms, main blades, tail blades, main gears, landing skids feathering shafts, and blade grips. Still have the original HS45's on cyclic, original Scorpion 2221-8 and 35 amp Commander and Spektrum receiver. Oh and the original canopy. Sure it's not as locked in as a fbl heli, but I still enjoy flying it. I also still have my original, flybarred, Protos 500 and Trex 500 that were flown last week. These helis were special to me because they were the ones I bought when I got into helis. Take care of them and they will last, assuming you can get parts. So far that's not a problem.

Thumbs up Not Dead Yet - Still Flying

Still flying my E-4 Ver 1...but very gently.

Don't want the frustration of *trying* to buy parts.

How has your "parts purchase" experience been going? I have a hankering to experiment with Flybarless Kit on the E-4 Ver. 1. Great machine....except for parts availability....why buy a new air frame???

You using HATZ for parts??

Praying for a miraculous RESURRECTION of the BEAM Line!! Nothing close in quality...with the possible exception of OXY and SYNERGY.

All the best,

OP

I have the E4 binded and setup on my current TX so with a little luck tomorrow I'll see how it flies once again.

I've had no issues with parts from Hatz. The shipping is usually around 23.00 and the parts are at my door in NC in 2 days

I flew my E4 that is convertes to FBL. Using Beam parts which would probably hell to replace if my old ass crunched it in
Bought the kit in 08 and put a Skookum FBL controller on it in 13 or 2014
I've only flown it a few times since
I always avoided Alugn products for some reason and now have lots of all size heli s up to 700 size with little parts support ( not my Compass 700) but TT 620e erc

I have an old Beam E4 that had a rough meeting with mother earth. Is this heli a lost cause or are there shops that still carry parts? Been looking around but found nothing useful.

You guys noticed that the Beam E4 has a special "sing" to it in the air? It makes a sound that i have not heard in any other RC helicopter. Would love to get mine back into shape.

Forgive me if i´m off topic but spare parts were mentioned so...

Still have my Beam E4 V1 converted to FBL but I have not flown it in a while.
Here is a video of the last time I took it out... I'm up at about 1:16.

We did not get a blizzard last year... maybe this year!!

I convertet mine to flybarless a few years ago and have flown it twice. Once a month ago.
I used a Skookum FBL controller and it is rock steady.
I'm just getting too old for these things. Lol

There's Hatz in Korea: http://beamrc.com/shop/m_mall_list.php?ps_ctid=35080000

There may be other shops with stock of E4 parts as it was around a long time and was fairly widely distributed at one time.

I'll get mine in the air soon. I only just started flying again a few weeks ago after not flying anything at all over the winter, so I'm easing back into it again and needed to fly something bigger first!

Shame you folks are in the wrong Hemishpere, or i might have been able to help. I scored the very last of remaining stock the Aus supplier had to sell before letting the contract for BEAM lapse...

P&H would be a killer, and direct from Hatz in Sth Korea is in the least a 'definite' option where all else fails....they are STILL hugely used there, and seem to be focused on their local market...

I'm of two minds to sell up the whole lot as i am not flying atm, and too busy trying to get my new business up and running...most of it is near/as/NEW and in great condition due to lack of airtime (and NIB/NIP/KIT's)...

Decisions, decisions....

It was to windy for the fixed wing today so I had my Beam E4 (Version 1 FBL converted) up for a half dozen flights.
It had been so long I had forgotten how smooth this little dude is.
Quite enjoyed it.
