Default X5 V2 Upgrade Kit

Is there an upgrade kit available for V1 users to convert our frames to V2? I saw in another thread there was one available on the Gaui website in their specials section but it's no longer there?

Otherwise could someone please tell me what parts are required? Afaik I need two side frames and frame stiffener kit (the bottom 3 parts on this link: http://www.gaui.com.tw/product-line/parts/x5-v2-body/). Any other parts needed? Ignoring the taller head and new canopy of course.

Beware of the V2

Like you I love my X5 and it have performed flawlessly. The V2 design howerver is to my opinion been thrown together in haste and look like a half assed job really.

to start, they have drilled holes in places where frame strength matters a lot, if you look at the top of the case where they want you to put in the FBL controller, they have a large hole cut alonside the tail tube and lots of carbon removed compare to V1. In a heavier crash i can see the frame break in half easily.

In V1 version the bottm of the frame is reinforced with two layers of horizontal carbon boards, now they just got one.

The front of the frame design is also not pretty. The V1 version has vertical as well as horizontal carbon boards so the hole body is a sealed box. on the V2, the nose of the frame is just two thin piece of carbon poking out where the impact will be biggest if you gets it head in. You can lose both your frame and you batts in one go.

Also the placement of the Batts, as marketed by gaui, should be the biggest imporvement of the design. In practice I have a hard time getting the velcro in. the limited space makes strapping down battary very difficult.

I disassembled mine after switching to V2 and I'm measuring up the size so I can customize some reinforcement on it.

Totally with you on the frame strength points, the V1 is extremely stiff so I'll have to wait and see what happens with the V2.

The battery issue isn't really an issue - the V1 has the battery out in the open right next to the motor so I'd say the V2 wins that fairly easily, any improvement was going to help in a crash really.

Personally I think the frame aesthetics are fine, I like the extra space for a larger ESC up front and also space for a Mini Vbar size FBL up the top at the back of the frames - a spot that was previously not large enough for one.

Space to use a 5000mah pack too was all this model required for an update so I'm quite happy!

They always have a belt version right? What's wrong with it? never tried belt myself.

Measured up and CAD done from the original V2. Going to mod it now, Is there anything to consider if I were to incoporate the better belt version on the side frames?

Why do you need a belt option? It works perfectly fine with tt

I didn't say the tt didn't work. they always had a belt option but its prone to skip at higher head speeds..i converted my formula to belt and love it. with the slant gear and belt its much quieter. I haven had it skip but its my guess the front belt gear is too small or needs a tentioner. also with the belt 550's go right on but im running 523's.

my thing with the v2 is a better belt option could have happened when they revised the frames.
