Default New guy from San Diego

Whats up guys, I am fairly new to the heli world but not rc. Have done everything, boats, cars, trucks, planes. both nitro and electric but heli's have always fascinated me.
Bought a Blade SR about 2 years ago to try to get started and it was a disaster. ending up breaking it and just selling it after I got discouraged. Got a cheap coaxial about 6months ago and it got me back interested. Just got a V911 "trex 100 clone" and have ran about 10 packs through it so far practicing my hovering tail in and tail out and flying around the living room.
Will be looking to get a "real" one here soon in the 450 size range.
Debating on getting the Walkera v450d03 which seems like a good deal but after reading some think I might be better off spending an extra 75 on the Trex 450 plus DFC.

I also work on full size heli's for a living

Welcome to the Freak! Good line of reasoning on the Align as far as a 450 goes. Parts availability is a plus, and also there are tons of freakers that fly them, and you can get a lot of support for that bird in it's sub-forum, which is very active.

Btw, love San Diego. We've done several trade shows there over the years, and have always had a good time. Reminds me a lot of Austin.

Hey, welcome to the forum and to helis! I'm from out East... in Santee. Haven't found too many good flying places yet, so mostly backyard for me so far.

Walkera makes some attractive stuff, but Align (T-rex) parts are easier to get locally. After you've gone through the micro heli phase, a 450 is a nice size to step up to, but as you found from your Blade SR, they are quite a bit different to fly than a co-axial or a fixed pitch micro.

A RC heli simulator is a great tool to get through the hovering orientations training that you'll need to avoid the inevitable beginner crashes. Have fun!

I too got caught in the Blade SR trap as my first heli, so I feel your pain. I've since stepped back and am honing my skills with an mSR. I'll get cocky every now and again, fire up the SR, crash it, repair it, put it back in the box, and go back to the mSR.
