My CC Ice 50's internal BEC doesn't seem to be having any problems. I'm a newbie so I'm curious what minor symptoms might occur if it was having a hard time doing the job?

Well, like I said in an earlier post, I downgraded my 8S set-up into 6S keeping the same scorpion 1630kv, but now with a 15t pinion governed at 3300rpm, reason is that the heli was too heavy and too much power.

Now I'm not very impressed with the 6S result, I feel I have cut the power in half compared to 8S with a 12T pinion, and flying time is cut down by a good 2 minutes, actually it have less power than my previous 4S/scorpion 3000kv 12T.

I ordered a scorpion 2010kv and let you know the result.

I have a scorp 1630 also and i just can't seem to get the "wow" everyone else is getting. It feels like a regular 450 pro with a little bit more punch. Maybe a new motor is key?

If you flew the 2010 motor on the same pinion you are using now that would potentially raise your head speed by an additional 600-900 rpm so you will definitely want to change to a lower pinion if you want the same head speed.

Well after about 60 flights my Scorpion HK 2221 2010 has already trashed the top motor bearing despite being lubricated with Scorpion's oil every 6-10 flights.

I'm on Boca Bearing's site right now with 6 different bearing types to choose from. Any advice on which bearings have worked well?

Also any tips on special tools or techniques required? This is my first motor bearing replacement.

Ok cool so I'll plug in the new motor and get a new pinion and I should be good to go? What pinion do you suggest?

Yes, mechanically speaking, the pinion is the only thing you should have to change. What pinion you run depends on the head speed/type of flying you will be doing.

I'm doing sport flying and transitioning into moderate 3d. On an ungoverned ESC I ran a 12T pinion and set a flat throttle curve of 90% on idle 1 and 100% idle 2. Running at 100% created gobs of power and head speed was peaking around 3500 rpms when at zero pitch, which is a bit to high for me. Once I sorted out how to use governor mode on my Castle Creations ICE 50, I had to move up to a 13T pinion to allow enough "head room" for the governor to maintain a 3200 rpm head speed during full collective on idle 2 . I'm running 3000 rpm on idle 1 and 2800 rpm in normal mode.

What ESC are you using?

Closer inspection revealed that my motor shaft was spinning against the inside race of the upper bearing, thus wearing down the shaft in that area causing the radial slop in the shaft. Why the shaft was allowed to spin inside the bearing is not certain (The one crash I've had, poor QC at the factory that day, who knows?). The bearings are smooth when tested by hand.

New bearings and shaft are on their way.

I have a ice 50 esc. I really just want to put the 10 in. Leave my 100 flat and change the pinion. What pinion do u suggest for this motor/setup

Short answer: 11T for tossing it around, 12T for harder 3D.

My opinion: Use the wonderful governor in "Set RPM" mode to maintain a constant head speed (that suits your flying style) throughout the entire flight.

Just curious as to why you are choosing not to run governed?

+1 for the governor, it work beautifully on a 450. 13T pinion will be needed.

Well it's not that I choose to it's that I have no idea how to even begin to setup the gov. And just today my motor took a dump so I need this setup by this weekend!

Edit- I just ordered the scorp hk 2221-10 v2 for my pro with a 11 tooth pinion and a 13 tooth pinion. I'm going to try the 11 first with my setup as is and bought the 13 just in case I figure out how to use the gOv. Thanks alot for everyone's help!

That's a good reason not to be running governor mode Coming from the simple stock Align ESC on my 450 Sport, the Castle with all of it's bells and whistle was really intimidating.

Figuring it out did come at the cost of a couple stress headaches and barking to myself about how ridiculously complicated it seemed. I won't lie, I think set up (for the first time) and having to tune it with a laptop at the field, was a pain in the tush. So I did just run it with fixed end points on the 12T pinion for the first few flights. This is how I know that with a new pack during hover at the beginning of the flight, the head is screaming at 3500 -3600 rpm... lol)

Once I was able to wrap my head around the idea and now after experiencing the improved and very consistent flight behavior, I can't imagine going back.

If you decide to jump into Gov mode and you're curious about my settings, I have the Castle report (all esc settings) posted in my last blog.

Good luck and have fun with it.

Try a Jazz ESC. Governor mode is simple. And not that much more money when you consider the fact that you have to buy the Castle link cable.

The castle link is free when you bought a brand new CC ESC.

The best mode is ''set rpm'' gorvernor mode, and is very very easy to use, it only took a couple of minute of setting and enjoy...!! no need to tach the head speed in this mode, you get the rpm you entered in your setting.

Anybody here running "Hyperion G3 EX - 6S 1100mAh (45C)" battery on the 450 Pro? Need to know if they fit.

Verdict: On 6S, the 2221-2010 scorpion is much more powerfull than the 1630, I'm very happy now.

So, for those who want to convert 6S, I strongly recommend the 2010 on 13T over the 1630 on 15T, both governed @ 3300rpm, this is like night and day difference.

The 1630 is not a bad engine, since I have tried it on 8S I can tell it's a step more power than 6S 2010, but no go for 6S.

I don't have tried the align 1700KV on 6S, but I suspect it not better than scorp 1630.
