Robert,

Another great video. Thanks for posting!! I'll be replacing my motor after this weekends funfly with the new scorpion as well.

Is there a reason why you increased hover head speed? Is there a issue with esc temperature when lowered to 1800 or so? I find the r5 to lift off and land really smooth at 1800ish and was planning to leave it there.

Robert,

I am swapping out motors tonight. What have you settled at as far as head speed for a 3 speed setup with the Scorpion 630kv?

I settled with 2000, 2450 & 3100 using the 22T pinion. You can go up on your top end head speed but battery usage leaves very short flight time.

Thanks, Robert. Motor is in and a bench spool up with Kosmik showed 2000 with 22T at 50% TC, 3280 at 78% and 3400ish at 80%.

I'll dial in your settings and give it a go in the morning.

I'll warn you....it goes really fast ! Lol

I would set your first flight at two minutes and check your batteries.

That's what I'm talking about!!! Four flights performed today and what a difference this motor made. Very locked in and stable at the new head speed. One set of batteries with 45+ flights will have to take a bullet after today. On pass number 4, they set off my low voltage alarm, followed by mah consumed alarm.

Thanks again Robert for the tips!!

Pulse 6S, 3300 mah, 65C. I got 45 or so flights on them running 2800 HS. On the newer set (20 flights) I made 6 passes at 3150 HS before tripping my 70% mah consumed alarm. Note: I reduce HS to 2400 going up the ramp and switch back to 3150 1/3rd the way down the ramp to conserve battery.

Holy crap! That's pretty quick. I was hoping to get more flights than that from them.

I guess it isnt that big of a deal though, I have 6 sets of them (3300mah packs) so, that should get though quite a good while!

Justin P mentioned getting 30 flights out of his packs on a recent RCHN episode. I guess it depends on how hard you fly them, amount of collective pitch you run and your HS/kV choice. I'm at 14+ pitch right now and feel bumping it up to 15 will only kill batteries at a faster rate.

Robert, do you have to cut short the shaft making it 41-42mm in length?
I'm in the middle of building my new R5. Still deciding whether to use my old motor, Scorpion 4525-520KV, with the shaft replaced, or get the new one, 4235-630KV.

Hey guys
With summer just around the corner for us, I'm thinking of doing some work on getting more speed out of my R5. My 6's hyperion packs are just about flogged and batteries will be on the list of requirements.
I'm thinking of getting this motor but was wondering also if there is a benefit to going 14's instead? I understand the reasons for going 14's but just wondering if it's worth it??
I'm running the 160amp kontronik esc so either is fine, its just the battery/motor decision.
Also has anyone heard anything about proper speed blades coming out any time soon??
Chrs Guys

I did the math and a 520kv motor running 14S will give almost the same motor rpm as the Scorpion 630kv on 12S but everything will run cooler.
