Default Drexel student charged n going to trial over drone flight

What a dumb kid but how would a quad fly near a chopper and still fly ? I would think a police heli would throw a quad into the ground ?? Krist didnt the Navy use a heli's rotor wash to keep a pirates skiff from moving toward land. And worse lets say it was near the tail, where we have 3X the rotor thrust ??? I say once the vids is shown, the case will be dismissed

I mean clearly unsafe and illegal flying over public areas. But the quotes and comments from the heli pilot are highly unlikely. You can see that they are zoomed in on the phantom from a significant distance and at no point is it ever "coming right at them". My vote is on the wash blowing it down unless it was a high speed head on collision.

The problem isn't multirotors or helicopters, it is FPV. This won't be limited to flying. FPV RC land vehicles will become a menace also. Toys like the Inductrix FPV and "Drone Racing" TV shows encourage it.

This is another one I wonder about. I know that the vacuum would suck it in but could it get there before the outer wash blows it off. Typically the helicopters are higher than the quads but regardless. Id like to see it in real time.

I have to wonder why the FAA has done testing ?? Or why they have not released it ?? That's the better ?? Probally bc heli blade will hold up to plastic any day of the week. Sucked into the turbo fan on a 747 probally won't do much damage but again no testing results. I have to wonder. ??

They are funding testing at Virginia Tech, there's a few videos online of various aspects (latest being DJI's crashing into heads of crash test dummies), but no data yet.

I also know FAA funded them to look at impacts on commuter sized aircraft, windscreen, leading edges of wings, tail, etc., plus into the engines. I suspect this focus is because class "B" airspace should keep most drone activity away - not the case where many of the commuter sized commercial traffic fly.
