Tail blade choice banshee
So far ive broken in flight rail and rotortech 106mm tail, it collapse near the root and allows blade to flex and tail acts strange.
Lucky both time im able to land. Im guessing tail ratio and length of tails and pitch/tail settings has a lot to do with it. I like to fly 1800 for soft 3d and 2100rpm for harder 3d and fast circuits, then 2300rpm for speed. Perhaps the best solution is to use 106mm for 2100 and under and swap to 96mm for speed flight to be safe???? |

My guess is that the speed runs are what is killing the tail blades, and shorter blades would be lighter and put less load on the root.
I bet you are flogging your heli pretty hard compared to "most" of us.

Have you tried varying the gain based on RPM? I started out with 105's but had trouble with gain and switched to 95's when I busted the 105's. Of course I haven't exercised them like you! I had originally planned to do as you suggest but for the Diabolo. The difference being that it has a different tail gear ratio depending on planned RPM.

I change the tail gain no superwag. Must be the load from speed runs.
So i guess my only choice is to swap tails for speed. Ill bump her upto to 2400rpm also now |

Michael I use Rail 96 tails at 2300 when doing speed runs and have not had any issues...

Ok i think i need to be disciplined and do this. Would be good if someone could come up with and auto variable tail gear ratio!! Any engineers here? Lol

That will be the next 10K heli. Although I don't own a Banshee I have been using rotortech 95mm at 2500 RPM on one of my speed machines with no issues.

I had the same problem with the rails after 60 flights. It got a wavy surface and lost most of its strength, making the tail feel real mushy. I posted about it, but everyone said I hit it against something and damaged it, which never happened. One blade was worst than the other, but you can see the waves in the pics. Luckily I have been using leftover edge tails, and haven't had any problems.

I've used Rotortech 105 for 3D and 95 for speed. Never a single issue. Top rpm for 3D 2000, for speed governed 2300 competing, governed 2500 crashing...

It first happened on my goblin running 2200, and then again on my diabolo running 2350 doing mostly speed passes. I noticed it earlier on my diabolo so it never got as bad as my goblin did. I am almost 90% sure it happened on my diabolo in one day when I was fooling with the tail and had the gain too high. I kept having a high speed shudder when I was messing with the gain trying to find a happy medium of 3d and speed. I removed the rail tails from both, and haven't had an issue since.
