Blade 400 Rebuild-THOUGHTS???
Hello
I have an older blade 400HD that took a bad crash 5 years ago. I am ready to rebuild and fly my B400. Looking for the challenge of rebuilding and also learning more about the hobby as I go. My evil plan is to upgrade several systems on the B400 I am also reading allot of good information from http://www.rchelicopterfun.com/index.html There is allot of good repair and upgrade information on this website. Gyro Hobby King 401B Servos... TailRotor Hextronih Mg14 Hi Tec HS65HB for the aileron and other controls Blades... Purchased new carbon fiber main rotor and tail rotor blades (both made by blade and discontinued) Looked into replacing parts on the main rotor head assembly but its seems going aluminum could be asking for trouble in a future crash or blade strike. Opted to keep the stock plastic parts for as long as I can find them online to purchase and replace. Is there any thoughts that a seasoned pilot might have for me before I start the rebuild or other parts that I am not aware of that I should look into purchasing ? Thanks |

Just a few possibilities ...
If you can acquire a used GY-401 (Futaba) you will be very pleased with how it performs. I saw one within the last week here or on RCG for $40. Those Hitec's will work fine for cyclics. A Hitec HSG-5084MG works great for a tail servo and won't break the bank - $30. Or an E-Flite DS76T works good too for around $22. I would replace the stock 25A ESC with a HobbyWing 40A with 3A switching BEC - around $25. I prefer the plastic head and tail parts - they don't bend so you know they're bad when they break Good luck! -John |

You can run a FBL like a Bar on them instead of a RX/Gyro. I have two that way. You can turn the cyclic gains to 0 and just let it do the tail or add some in to your liking. Analog metal gear servos on the cyclic are also a cheaper alternative and won't strip like the plastic ones.

Thank you so much for confirming what I've been wanting to do to my B400 with the scale A-109 fuse. (I need a good excuse to buy a new Brain for Maria) You rock!

Yes the 400 is great. I have a couple in flybar mode and a couple FBL. I am just starting to notice though that a few of the parts are no longer available in Australia. I am currently waiting for tail rotor shafts from the USA and my LHS tells me some parts are actually discontinued. It will be a pity if I have to move to the larger diameter tail boom.

Also, you can ask Creaky Cactus, he may have an excess of some components. A padded envelope should suffice for shipping I would guess. No matter if the parts are no longer made, there is a mass of yet to be uncovered hoards of B400 parts all over the planet Cheers, Mike |

Like TowPilot says. There are TONS of B400 parts out there still at least here in the US. I can find them everywhere including Amazon. They are nice cheap fliers. If I see more come up for sale cheap I'll buy 'em up like before.
