700n OS105 Flight Times
Just curious to see what sort of flight times people are getting.
I'm running 1950 HS and getting about 8 mins flying, 2 mins faffing about and landing with about 12mm left in the bottom of the tank. Once I get my on board glow and dont have to mess around getting the canopy on I think I could get 9 mins flying.

I run a 6 min timer with a bladder, I land with enough fuel left that I could probably run 7 min. 2000hs with the 8.0 ratio gears.
Edit: 30%, added the thinner shim, stickbanging.

Stick banging about 6m with 30% pretty rich to keep it cool. With extra shim.

6-7 minute of stick banging at 2000 rpm (8:1 ratio).
I tried to fly my 700 electric this past weekend and landing at 3:45 was unsettling.

What do the different shims do?

Reduces compression. The motor with stock shims is designed for 15%-20% nitro, with 30% you need to reduce compression to avoid detonation.

Yah per the OS105 manual you want to run 2x 0.2mm shims for 30% (it's just the fuel I already had 3 cases of). Good news is with this setup it doesn't run too hot at all. Just need to run the middle needle pretty rich. And just tune the high needle. I'm a learning tuner, but I'm VERY happy with the OS105. I had nothing but bad luck with my YS91SRX. To the point where I couldn't even learn to tune before burning out a motor. Now finally I have 5 gallons through an engine and I'm enjoying what nitro has to offer.
I mounted VTX 697 on the nitro. Actually pretty shocked with what happened. Normally there is an envelope of maneuvers I can do with a 3.5HP nitro vs a 12HP electric. A compromise. But what surprised me is the amount of cyclic I can use with VTX without bogging the engine. Pretty much opened my entire envelope with the nitro. Was really surprised by it. So my love of nitro hit a new level since I can just fly it and load cyclic a _lot_ more without killing the engine. |
