TDR MK II tail modification
Hi guys,
I just want to show you my tail modification on my TDR II. The reason I did this was to see, what impact a damped tail rotor like the SAB or the Mikado Logo 700/800 will have on the tail gain. The servos I tried where, BK 7005, Hitec D-940 and now the MKS 880. All servos had more or less the same tail gain. 1600/70, 1850/52, 2100/only 46. These are the values in the Mikado Neo use with the VBC. I tried a new Neo also, with the same resukt. Also the extern Sensor didn't allow higher tail gain. So since I had an old Goblin on the shelf, I just mounted this tail rotor on the TDR II. The problem is, 5mm tailshaft vs. SAB 6mm. The bearings from SAB fit the tail housing of the TDR. Only 1 mm higher, but this will have no affect. I bought an 22 teeth motor pinion from SAB for 6mm shafts and cut it down to the size of the TDR pinion, with my latte. The easiest way would be, to drill the original pinon from 5mm to 6mm, which can be done with the right machine. The whole modification took me about 2 ours. The servo horn is now 15mm, and the values are 120 on both sides, since the tailshaft is longer. Now to the flying. This is the best thing I did. Now my gains are, 92/78/74 with 115 SAB tailblades. The tail increases now to 300mm with 115 blade length. Also enough with my 780 Align blades, since you have more throw against the torque. Yesterday I mounted 120 tailblades just to see. The gains had to be decreased about 86/74/68. Still more as my original tail ever gave me. Furthermore the tail don't sound so angry as it did before. Now I am happy again, I had in mind selling the machine. And the 780 Align blades are awesome and aggressive....At 2100 rpm a beast. I would say a good fit for 3D flying..... Here some pics.
