Default Belt driven tail on E7

Pardon my stupidity, but I am new to 700 size helicopters. I have read here and on the Synergy threads on RR that many people are anxiously awaiting the TT conversion for the E7. I have a belt driven tail on my Furion6 and have had no issues. I have a TT driven tail on my trex 600N, also no issues.

Why are people displeased with a belt driven tail on a 700 class helicopter? Or is it particular to this helicopter? correct me if i am wrong but the Logo 600 SE, Compass 7HV, and the MC Diabolo are belt driven too.

There is nothing wrong with the belt. I am one the people awaiting a TT kit. I just prefer TT. I had a friend help me set the belt tension and now it is perfect. Prior to the e7 I had never flown a belt on a heli bigger than a 450. I was making the belt too tight.

There are a few particular things about the belt drive setup on the E7 that don't make it ideal in my opinion.

First is the stock belt. I found it stretches too much under changing loads on the tail, creating too much slack on the non drive side of the system. Basically a situation where the belt touches itself in the middle of the boom where there is minimal clearance between the 2 sides.

I had to run the stock belt WAY to tight to get the belt slap and ringing to stop. This putting way too much of a strain on tail case bearings, nevermind the belt itself. I had a few situations where the tail of the heli "Skipped" un expectedly and almost caused me to dump the heli. Not something I want to have happen again.

This could be fixed in a couple ways. One would be to have a larger diameter boom, with a larger rear pulley, and slightly wider spacing on the front idler pulleys. Second is to put a polyurethane/kevlar belt on the heli that doesn't stretch as much. I've been using the Logo 600SE 770XL belt with much better success than stock. Much less drag in the system, and works a lot better. I see in another post the Synergy has their own kevlar belt on the way now as well.

The belt system is identicle to a Logo setup, so it has been proven to work quite well. But on a 600SE you don't typically run a HS of 2200-2300 to compare results to. The Logo's also use a 25mm boom, and not a 22mm one like the Synergy's do.

I doubt there's much of an issue if your have an E6, but with the longer distance from frame to tail with the E7, belt deflection does become something to consider.

I can't say I'd recommend using the belt on an e7....mine just snapped in flight yesterday (just posted pics of carnage in main synergy forum - may repost/move to this forum if mods allow). I followed recommendation on correct belt tension - but to be honest I'm not sure if it was too tight, too loose, or if it just had too much stress on it - in order for it to rip in two.

The belt definitely needs to be upgraded. Call fblrotors and talk to Ralph. I am running a Kevlar belt in my E7 that is 100% better. Tell him Matt told you to call.

It's not the Logo mod people have been using.

Can someone tell me where to buy this kevlar belt and what the belt spec is? I'm trying to replace a belt for an old Bergen Observer, who no longer sells the part. I need a belt that is XL pitch, 6 mm wide and about 1800 mm long. Thanks.

This is the one I ordered. Have not received it yet, so I'm not sure if it will work or not.

The stock belt was disintegrating. The motor and pinion gear were full of particles from the stock belt after 12 flights. All rollers and such were/are free and smooth.

Can't wait to replace the belt with a trusty TT.
