they work just fine, been using them for the last 6 months or so and love them. some people have had clearance issues with the 90mm tail blades but i never once did. i am running the 86 tails now bc edge doesn't have a 90 only 92 and wasn't sure if that was too big or not. i will say that if you are running the stock esc that you will see that it will run pretty hot with the 553 blades on it, i replaced it with something a little more suited for the load.

No, yge 100lv with vbar support. The ice 100 was my first choice bc I do like them but I'm running the vbar governor on my helis and the castles just aren't/weren't working well with vbar gov. Think that is about to change here soon though. The ice 100 is a very popular choice for the 550, it would be on mine if the sensors worked good at the time.

Because the internal BEC in the ice 100 is not nearly power for all the servo's and the fbl unit. It could work for a little while, but you could end up getting brown outs and end up crashing.

On top of the whole brown out issue, your ESC is going to be running substantially hotter..

It is always recommended to run an external BEC or a LiFE pack on sizes 550 and bigger.. Unless you invest into a Kontronik ESC which has a 15A BEC integrated.. But most ESC's that have internal BEC's top out at 5A, which like I said, is not anywhere near enough to safely run all your servos and FBL unit.
