I had the Tareq in my Goblin 380's and that was such a nice motor man. It ran ice cold, it was powerful like insannnnne powerful, never bogged etc. My friend had the 2820 it was not as juicy but we were just doing stupid high speed passes and massive power loops etc. For proper flying 3d I agree its probably totally unnecessary but I think I will do it if it fits

There are the lighter motors which will do well overall

http://www.helidirect.com/helicopter...aft-b-3mm.html

and the scorpion 2520 motors.

Here are some good options for motors if you prefer to run around 900kv on 6s

Good all round flight times and great 3d performance performance

http://www.scorpionsystem.com/catalo...30/HK3014_900/

http://www.helidirect.com/quantum-ou...820-880kv.html

http://www.helidirect.com/kontronik-...ess-motor.html

The micro pyro is 14 poles so may not work well with all esc but good match with Kontronik or YGE esc

For super powerful set up you can grab one of these

http://www.helidirect.com/helicopter...oblin-380.html

http://www.helidirect.com/scorpion-h...oblin-380.html

There is also the KDE 500xf 925kv motor and Xnova 3215 - 930kv Tareq edition. Both these motors are crazy powerful and overkill for the Protos 380.

For Speed Controller

You can choose anywhere from 50a for a light set up. All the way up to 80a max for any superpowerful motor and very high headspeeds.

90a YGE/YEP or 100a v3 Hobbywing is overkill and just adds unnecessary weight.

Hobbywing 60a v4 or Hobbywing 50a v3 esc is perfect all round esc that comes with a very good internal bec for HV servos if you want to run HV servos. They both weigh the same at around 50grams.

http://www.hobbywing.com/compare.php?goods[]=481&goods[]=424&

The hobbywing 80a v4 is not necessary unless you want to fly 3500+ rpm and run 13+ collective pitch which is waste It weighs 97 grams and is a bit too heavy.

But is the HOBBYWING Platinum Pro 60A a good choice ? its seems it is part of a good percentage of all proposed setups ?

I run a 100AV3 in another model and I happy with it but ...

if you look around (I looked in the hw section ) , and it seems people are very pleased for the flying and how it comes down cool but still you see complaining about a few things with the HW V4 's.

- big tail kick when you run an external gov ( I don't want to run the buildin gov , brain gov FTW )
- noise on the buildin rpm which seems to mess up the signal (like with Neo), which ppl fix why swithing FBL or running an external HW sensor.

Did I miss anything ? I agree the 60A spec is nice with the proposed motor but still , I wonder if it would be a good choice.

IMO, the HW60v4 is an excellent choice. It's plenty big for the application. As far as the issues you noted here, neither one of them is a large problem when using the Brain gov. Use the ESC in Heli-linear mode to have decent soft start. The rpm out from the ESC works just fine with Brain, no need for external sensors.

Yes those components would work great. Stock pinion is 16T 3.5mm hole.

So what would be an appropriate kv for the 16t pinion for a max head speed of 3k?

You would want a 1350kv motor and the 14t if you want max head speed of 3000 gov.
