Does anyone else think the tail is real sluggish on this bird? Or is it just me?

Mine seems fine, nowhere near as sharp as my Protos but OK for a sport bird.
Tail blades might make the difference. Which ones are you running?

Im running the stock blades. The bird takes forever to rotate the tail 360 deg my trex is like bam it is rotated. I was shocked to see how slow the caliber rotated, I even tried the expo on +20 to try to help it out.

Well, of course the headspeed you are running would make a difference also but I was not impressed by the stock tail blades so I installed some JR type plastic ones and that improved the responce. KBDDs would be even better.
Also, are you getting full travel of your tail servo?

Mines a 32 also and I'm running G5 widecord blades so it struggles to keep the headspeed up but I don't have tail problems unless the belt gets loose.
Of course no 30 is going to rotate like a 450, or even a 50 either. What size is your Trex? Is is a 600?

It is a 450. I have tried to find videos of the caliber 30 on you tube but yet to find one where the tail responds. Like you said it is agreat sport flying and at this point that is all I'm doing anyway so it should be fine . My next step is probley a trex 600 nitro, I'm sure the tail will respond better on that one.

Like I said if it doesn't work well enough try a set of KBDD blades. I have them on my Protos and they are very responsive!

Default I am a new owner of a Caliber 30.

Just traded for it today as a spare/trainer. So you could convert this to a 50?

Looks like ill need a Spektrum RX and some fuel. It has a Os Max SX 32. Gy401 , Futaba S3001 servos. Futaba S9253 tail . What do you all think ? It looks a little older. Any suggestions on upgrades or set up?

I like the 32 on mine, long flights on a tank of fuel! You can convert to a 50 using Caliber 5 parts.
The only thing to watch out for is slop in the pitch block. If the pins don't fit tight in the sots in the block you might get some "woof - poof"! You can fix this buy replacing the block with either a new plastic one or you used to be able to get a metal one from RCheliwerkz.

After some thought the solid tail fins on the Calibers will slow the tail down some too. Still mine seems just as fast as my Raptor 50 with the exact same tail blades on both.

92s! I have the cimitar blades from HeliDirect. They look like the standard kit blades on the JR helis. I am going to change to the KBDDs on the fifty soon though.

pulled my caliber 30 out yesterday for the first flight in 6 months , I cant believe how great it fly's , cant believe the caliber line never made more of a hit in the market , my friends fly century's a trex's , dont get me wrong I like the align but its louder and more $$$ to fix

Also noticed my caliber 30 is a mix of caliber 3-4 and 5 parts maybe thats why it fly's so nice look forward to flyin it untill I cant get no more parts , good thing I have enough parts to build 3

I have a problem with the clutch not disengaging any remedies for that? I have pulled it apart and put a c clamp on the shoes and left it there for a few mins to squeze the shoe back in but after a few flight it springs back out and has done this from day one.

New clutch time! Unless you are able to reheat treat your old one. They need to be heat treated like a spring.

what do you have to push it together then heat it and drop it in water? I wonder if I'm over reving it by being too lean. what should the headspead be for the caliber 30
