Lightbulb 7s cell LiPo's, 25.9v Batteries

I am seeing a few heli's running on 7s LiPo's, dual packs.

So this would give you 51.8v's total.

I believe I saw these on a Goblin or SAB.

So what ESC are they using? And are they using a special motor?

My main question and I know it would take a little modificaton, can I run a 7s x2 pack on my Trex 700?

Just curious,
Dennis

14S capable ESCs are becoming common. The HobbyWing HV V4's, Scorpion Tribunus 200, Kontronik Kosmiks, etc. The 7S 4400-4500mah packs are about the same size and weight as the 6S 5000mah packs. Power (watts) consumption is about the same for 12S and 14S (14S is a bit more efficient than 12S) since this is determined by helicopter weight, blades, flight style, etc., but since the voltage is higher with 14S, the current is less. Since current is a major determinant in the generation of heat, 14S allows you to both run the ESC cooler and tolerate more power/watts before reaching maximum rated current. Also, since the 14S capable motor generally has a lower Kv, it also generally has more torque.

Just like 450 size helis went from 3S to 6S, I anticipate 14S will be more common than 12S for larger helis in the future. Hopefully, 16S will eventually become the standard someday, but safety concerns and legal implications may be the limiting factors here.

I have used YEP 180HV, YGE 160, Kosmik and Hobbywing on 14S.

Share your experience with 14S compared to 12S. What size 14S packs are you using?

BTW, why is it that the Align branded HW ESCs included with the Align 700 size helis are only rated to 12S when the parent HobbyWing ESC is rated for 14S? Does HobbyWing water down the Align version?

I switched from 2x6S GA 4400 35C to 2x7S Revo 4200 60C and really like it. Weight is about the same, and the power is noticeably greater with all the motors I have tried. Also runs cooler on 14S than it did on 12S.

YGE 160HV
