I'm using the OrangeRX module which allows me to set it to 11ms DSMX or DSM2. It also allows 22ms.

It doesn't matter what I set the ms to in the Taranis. So long as the external module is set to ppm 1-7ch.

Maybe there is a way to place the spektrum module to 11ms. I am unaware though.

I have this setup with the taranis as follows:

Mixer:
TAER and Pitch all inputs 100%, and assigned curves etc that are exactly the same as the DX6i setup in the manual whereby
(manual value -50)*2 = taranis value.

Gear = ch5
SE up +78% (stable)
Replace SE mid +0% (Intermed)
Replace SE dn -78% (3dExpert)
Replace SD notUp -100% (panic)

Serovs: All set to +-78%, except gear = +-100% A and R are reversed.

From looking at the dx6i monitor, the gear channel is driven to + or - 125% on the DX6i, which is +-100% on the taranis, all other channels are +-100% on dx6i = +- 78% on taranis.

It all works. I get all 3 modes, plus a panic in every mode.

BUT---- I cannot access any setup modes, e.g. servo center, trim flight etc...

The DX6i can enter these, but not the taranis. With the DX6i, the flight mode doesnt matter. At any time, hit throttle hold, left stick to bottom left, right stick to bottom right and flick panic and 1 sec later the servos dance.
This doesnt work in the taranis and i cannot for the life of me figure out why?

I wasnt able to enter any setup modes. Them my buddy who had a 9XR and a 180CFX told my you need to have rates at 100% or close to 100%. Otherwise it doesn't recognize enough stick input to say "hey, he wants me to enter setup modes now"

I've tried several values for servo limits from 80% (dx6i 100%) up to 100% (dx6i 125%) and cant figure this out.

actually here you go, I thought I posted mine a long time ago. I am pretty sure I haven't changed much if anything from that setup.

Thanks for that. I don't have channel 7 as its a home-brew TX made from a dx4e, which only has 6 channels. Dammit.... Anyone have a eepe for a 6-channel setup?

With 6 channel setup, the Gyro channel (5) is used for the 3 modes (12%, 50%, 88%) and the bailout (100%) ***

***note these percentages are from the manual so are spectrum %, not taranis %

I don't have an eepe for 6ch setup. Are you able to program your radio using the Companion software?

Yes I use companion.

I can access all 3 flight modes on the taranis and I can access bailout, but i cannot access the heli setups (servo config, reset config, trim flight etc).

Again, I would make sure the radio is outputting 100% weights for channels 1-4. That way it definitely sees the proper stick input when attempting to enter programming modes.
Other than that I am not sure why it is not entering programming modes.

I know this thread is old, but, is anyone still monitoring this by chance? If so, make sure your DR switches are on high and set to 100% and your channels 1-4 are also set to 100% and you should be able to get into setup mode.

Well, I don't use the eeprom program, I have just been doin all of my programming straight thru the TX menus. But, I have a Turnigy 9XR Pro and have gotten all functions on the 230s to work properly. I'm not at home, at work right now, but as soon as I get a chance I will post my mixes and hopefully you can translate them from the 9XR Pro ersky9x firmware to the companion9x firmware and get everything to work properly.

Hey, I'm out on the road, I drive a truck, won't be home for a while.
But, do you have one mode where all of your mixes and rates are at 100%? I know Spektrum rates and such are basically 80% of the Taranis, but you need to have everything at 100%, even your D/R and expo, and your D/R switches in the "up" position to get into programming mode. If you don't have everything at 100%, your TX doesn't see enough stick input telling it that you want to go into programming mode.

Whenever I do get a chance I will post my mixes. Just real busy at work right now.

Finally---- I have figured this out and have it all working !!!

I'm using a diy DX5e module (6 channels) in a genuine spektrum case... see here:
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...ial-DSM-Module )

The orange modules have more than 6 channels, so they can use channel 7 for panic mode.

I only have 6 channels, so the panic is mixed into channel 5, as it is on the DX6i.

I bound my DX6i to a genuine spektrum receiver and hooked it up to a naze32 using 'cleanflight' so I could see the channel pulse widths that were being produced.
The DX6i was configured as per the manual.
The pulse widths are as follows:
T 1100 - 1900
A 1900 - 1100 (e.g. reversed)
E 1100 - 1900
R 1900 - 1100 (e.g. reversed)
ch5 1900 normal
ch5 1100 3d mode
ch5 less than 900 = panic
ch5 more than 2100 = panic

So, it looks like what i thought was panic mode working on my taranis previously was not actually panic mode, it was stabilisation mode!
To get into panic, you have to set the pulse width to an "out of normal range" value. I tried 988us which is the maximum value without ticking "extended limits" but it didn't work.

To do this in taranis, there is a tick box called "Extended limits" on the MODEL SETUP screen.

So, to get a 6 channel TX to work with the taranis, use these settings:

Enable "Extended limits" in the MODEL SETUP screen.

In the "OUTPUTS" servo view screen, set:
ch1 T -78% 78%
ch2 A -78% 78% (reverse)
ch3 E -78% 78%
ch4 R -78% 78% (reverse)
ch5 Mode -125% 78%
ch6 Pitch -78% 78%

Mix for your Mode Switch:
Weight (+100%) (stabilisation mode) (replace)
Weight (0%) (intermediate mode) (replace)
Weight (-62%) (3D mode) (replace)
Weight (-100%) (panic mode) (replace)

In the "OUTPUTS" screen, you should now see:

T 1100 - 1900
A 1900 - 1100 (e.g. reversed)
E 1100 - 1900
R 1900 - 1100 (e.g. reversed)
ch5 1900 normal
ch5 1500 normal
ch5 1100 3d mode
ch5 860 panic
pitch 1100 - 1900

To access setup modes, the throttle must be at neutral, so access setup modes when you have throttle hold on e.g. the throttle is set to 1100 or less.

So, hopefully this will help someone else !

Man that's awesome that you got everything to work. I have a 9XR Pro with ersky9x firmware, but I can translate all of your settings and mixes from your Taranis to my TX. I previously thought I had everything workin correctly, but then had trouble accessing setup modes and trim flight mode, but had panic mode working. Gonna try your settings and see how it goes. Thank you, thank you!

Thanks for this and thanks for the Protos 380 taranis file. I'm using them both now. Had to switch a couple directions and channels in my taranis for some reason but just took it out to test it and everything works great. I've had this thing for over a year and just now using it.

I'm actually using it with a 130s instead of the 230s (same setup though), the protos 380, and just put new brain 2 on my oxy qube and used the p380 file for it too with a few tweaks. All are flying great now.

Just upgraded to the m9 hall gimbals last week too. My original rudder gimbal was acting up so thought it was time to upgrade.
